US Gen: One-Third Of Iraq Under Iraqi Security Control-TV

<snip>

Asked in an interview on Cable News Network if U.S. forces are making progress in stabilizing Iraq amid growing sectarian strife, Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said, "We are making progress. Whole areas of Iraq, about one-third of Iraq, is now under Iraqi security control."

He added that the "Iraqi military is getting stronger and more confident."
Kimmitt said about 77 Iraqi battalions consisting of as many 90,000 troops are on active patrols.

Asked why this level of Iraqi troop involvement hasn't led to a reduction in U.S. forces in Iraq, the general said sectarian violence has caused more instability in the country and the need for U.S. troops to stay.

Kimmitt added that insurgencies usually take between eight and 15 years to defeat.

It's three years after "Mission Accomplished" - one-third is NOT good enough!

6. exactly 1/3 is under Kurdish control, 1/3 is a desert and under
Iraqi "control" and 1/3 (where 2/3 of the population lives) is FUBAR. Sadly that last third is under US control.

8. Is that third where Shia are killing Sunnis?
Where Sunnis are killing Shia?

Or where Kurds are doing their best to ignore the rest of Iraq?
