Attorney: Regola's son 'frequently kept' gun (PA R State Senator's Son)

The gun that killed 14-year-old Louis Farrell, of Hempfield Township, was often kept in the bedroom of Robert Regola IV, who showed the weapon to friends, says the attorney for the Farrell family.

Attorney Jon Perry, of Pittsburgh, said Monday the 16-year-old son of state Sen. Robert Regola "had complete access (to the gun) and frequently kept it in the bedroom."

Speaking through their attorney, Douglas and Lauren Farrell, of Glenmeade Road, have broken their silence about the mysterious events of July 21-22 when their son died of a gunshot wound to the head from a Taurus 9 mm.

Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha has not yet ruled whether Farrell's death was a homicide, a suicide or an accident. Neither the coroner nor police will disclose the exact location of the wound.

Perry said it was common knowledge that the young Regola kept the gun in his bedroom and boasted to friends that his father allowed him to keep it even though he was too young to legally own a weapon.

This is the Richard Mellon Scaife newspaper reporting this

3. The story I have heard
was that not only did Regola's son have access to the gun but that it was passed around among some of the neighborhood kids like it was a toy.

4. Well the story does say that he showed it off to kids
I've been suspecting that this death involves horseplay with the gun. All to common with young males.

5. Hah - Story has been Scrubbed and Headline changed
on Trib Review Site. What I posted is no longer in the story. Wonder of Dicky Mellon Scaife called his reporter - which he has been known to do or if Regola or the Repubs made a call. Well that didn't take long!

Here's how the new story looks at same link I posted.

Attorney: Parents convinced son did not commit suicide

By Richard Gazarik and Paul Peirce
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Monday, August 14, 2006

The parents of a 14-year-old Hempfield Township boy found shot to death with a gun belonging to state Sen. Robert Regola are convinced their son did not commit suicide, the couple's attorney said Monday.
In the days before he died, Louis Farrell was not depressed, said Pittsburgh attorney Jon Perry.

On the contrary, the teen was having the "perfect summer" highlighted by a father-son trip to Florida and a recent concert at Station Square, Perry said.

Perry's comments broke the silence of Douglas and Lauren Farrell about the circumstances of their son's death just over three weeks ago. Louis Farrell was found dead July 22 of a single gunshot wound to the head in the woods behind the family's home on Glenmeade Road. A Taurus 9 mm pistol was found near the body. The Farrells live next to the Regolas.

6. They're convinced it wasn't sucide?

That makes it homicide or an accident, and since it wasn't his gun, that means one of the Regolas might be guilty of manslaughter. This story is supposed to be an improvement?
