FBI: Cell Phone Case Has No Direct Connection to Terrorist Groups
CARO, MICHIGAN (AP) -- The FBI said Monday it had no information to indicate that the three Texas men arrested with about 1,000 cell phones in their van had any direct connection to known terrorist groups. Authorities had increased patrols on Michigan's 5-mile-long Mackinac Bridge after local prosecutors said investigators believed the men were targeting the span.

Local authorities didn't say what they believed the men intended to do with the phones, most of which were prepaid TracFones, but Caro's police chief noted that cell phones can be untraceable and used as detonators.

1. No shit.
"Caro's police chief noted that cell phones can be untraceable and used as detonators." No doubt they can also be used to contact UFOs and travel in time. I've also heard they can be used to make phonecalls, but this seems a bit too far-fetched.

Here's a new word for the FBI: R-E-S-A-L-E. It's what people who don't have cushy government jobs-for-life complete with healthcare and pension often have to do to make M-O-N-E-Y, so that they can E-A-T.

2. Damn, the authorities are suspicious of EVERYTHING, huh?
I guess I can understand some suspicion, but I would think they would have done some investigation BEFORE jumping to the conclusion that these guys were terrorists!

9. one would think
but it's easier to yell terrorist and let the chips fall where they might

the retraction will be on page 21 as opposed to the terrorist headline in 24 point type

5. Mission Accomplished. It scared people & made * look successful
in the MSM. All that matters is perception. Most of the high level alerts for about a year after 9/1 were all based on false info. Sometimes the informer failed lie detector test - but of course that hardly made the news.

6. Yeah, if I was going to blow up something...
... the first thing I'd do is buy 1000 detonators. Can't have too many detonators, ya know. :eyes:

8. I've got my tinfoil on....
I think this could all be a setup...Dearborn has a large middle eastern population...bound to be some kids looking to make a buck..."Hey buddy want to make some money?"....the two kids busted in Ohio kind of look that way.

13. I tend to belive their story. Drug cartels that spend >$10K
on communications wouldn't do this. They'd have to know that purchases like what got these guys caught would raise eyebrows at the very least, and probably flags in multiple departments and LEA's. And any terrorist controller with more than a room temperature IQ would know this too.

There might be wrongdoing in the bulk resale of these phones. I don't know the regulations. But I strongly suspect that there is no involvement with terror or organized crime.

14. I always wondered what 1,000 cellphones ringing all at once sounded like..
then again, I always activate all the singing fish at the pharmacy at the same time, too.

16. i like the way the Fed's won't let go of this...there is no
"direct" connection? the clear insinuation is there being an "indirect" connection...and that would seem to be to the GOP campaign strategy rather than anything even remotely (no pun intended) to "terrorism".
