Bush confident of way through 'troubled times'
Bush confident of way through 'troubled times'
by Olivier Knox

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush, facing crises in the Middle East and Iraq and nuclear disputes with Iran and North Korea, has said he was using "all assets" at his disposal to protect the United States.

Bush's comments Monday came as he made a week-long push on national security and the economy one month before the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist strikes and three months before key legislative elections.

"We live in troubled times, but I'm confident in our capacity to not only protect the homeland, but I'm confident in our capacity to leave behind a better world," he said during a visit to the Pentagon.

Bush met with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and was to have lunch with what the White House described as experts on Iraq before heading to the US State Department for talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"It's very important for the American people to know that we're constantly thinking about how to secure the homeland, protect our interests and use all assets available to do our jobs," said the president.

1. Why don't most Americans...
Share his confidence?

Because it would entail having confidence in him and we are way over that possibility.

2. George Bush: "...protect our interests..."
Whose interests would that be, George? By "our" did you mean your gang of crooks, or the American people? I ask because it seems you've been just a wee bit out of touch with what the American people want. You see, you don't have much support among the American people right now. And you DO WORK FOR US. This is NOT YOUR COUNTRY, IT IS OURS.

And more than 2 out of 3 Americans do not approve of the job you're doing. That's getting pretty close to the approval rating of Richard Nixon, and we all know how that turned out. In fact, you're doing such a lousy job, you've made Nixon look better than he did, by contrast.

So, George, when you speak of "our interests" you need to understand that the majority of the American people do not view YOUR interests to be the same as OUR interests. Your wealthy base doesn't care about the population at large, they only care about furthering their own causes. Which is exactly the same way your everyday American happens to feel, only in reverse.

And the truth is, we outnumber you. By a lot. And we're sick of doing without the basics so your wealthy base can have MORE MORE MORE, when you already lack for nothing.

We're on to you, George. We know that you do not have OUR best interests at heart. Your tax cuts, lack of response to Katrina, discrimination against gays, budget cuts to education, etc., all show very clearly on which side you butter your bread.

So, you will understand, we hope, when we kick your butt out of office after the November elections, that there's nothing personal about it, you just are out of touch with America. And therefore, are unfit to make decisions on OUR behalf.

4. Interesting commentary at The Guardian regarding Bush today
Bush's belief in a worldwide Islamist conspiracy is foolish and dangerous

http://politics.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/comment/0,,1844203,00.html

George Bush sometimes sounds more like the Mahdi, preaching jihad against infidels, than the leader of a western democracy. In his regular radio address to the American people on Saturday he linked the British alleged aircraft plotters with Hizbullah in Lebanon, and these in turn with the insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan.

All, said the president of the world's most powerful nation, share a "totalitarian ideology", and a desire to "establish a safe haven from which to attack free nations". Bush's remarks put me in mind of a proverb attributed to Ali ibn Abu Talib: "He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare, and he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere."

snip>

In September 2001, most of the world clearly perceived that a monstrous crime had been committed against the United States, and that the defeat of al-Qaida was essential to global security. While many ordinary Muslims were by no means sorry to see American hubris punished, grassroots support for Osama bin Laden was still small, and remained so through the invasion of Afghanistan.

Today, of course, everything has changed. In the eyes of many Muslims, the actions of Bush and Blair have promoted and legitimised al-Qaida in a fashion even its founder could hardly have anticipated a decade ago.

Bush has chosen to lump together all violent Muslim opposition to what he perceives as western interests everywhere in the world, as part of a single conspiracy. He is indifferent to the huge variance of interests that drives the Taliban in Afghanistan, insurgents in Iraq, Hamas and Hizbullah fighting the Israelis. He simply identifies them as common enemies of the United States.

Almost three years ago he contemptuously challenged the Iraqi insurgents to defy American will: "My answer is - bring 'em on." Today he has widened this bold defiance to embrace a vastly more ambitious range of foes: "He who has one enemy will meet him everywhere."

5. "constantly thinking" ploy again.
How to secure homeland? I HATE them using this term, too many yrs of S.Africa's apartheid behind it.

Protect our interests? Oil and money.

Use all our assests available? Our jobs, money, kids money, etc.

I want a government that is not "constantly thinking" about how to do things but actually working FOR the PEOPle. I want a president who understands the difference between protecting the "people" and protecting the "constitution"

11. I am sick and tired of this "our interests" bullshit
When was the last time the pResident woke up in the middle of the night wondering if his kids will have health care if he loses his job? Or if he will even have a job? Is that the "our interests" he is referring to?

I wonder when the last time Bushie drove a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am with a broken air conditioner and a radio volume knob that doesn't work? Does he even know what it is like to drive a car in 97 degree heat with no air conditioning? Hell, does he even know how to drive? When his radio volume knob breaks he has a slew of mechanics standing by to fix it. I either have to pay for it to be done or take my dashboard apart to fix it.

The idiot always talks about going to the Crawford Ranch to "cut brush" because it is relaxing. I heat my house with wood because I cannot afford to heat it with natural gas anymore. I actually have to spend a few weeks per year with my chain saws and log splitters cutting wood, hauling wood, stacking wood, burning wood, because of HIS oil and energy policies. I don't think "clearing brush" is quite as relaxing as HE does. Maybe next time he is in Crawford he can cut a few cords for me.

I wonder how often he eats leftovers or goes without buying something so his kids can have some nice new cloths and shoes for the new school year. Did Bush ever wonder why reading teachers were cut from his kids public schools because of a lack of budget? Oh, that's right. They don't cut reading teachers from upscale private schools. Again, I ask, is that the "our interests" he is referring to?

His idea of vacation is two weeks (down from five) at a 2,000 acre ranch with a mansion and servants. My idea of vacation is spending two nights in a Fairfield in with a pool and the Columbus Zoo for the kids.

Fuck you Bush and your whole "our interests" speak. You don't know what my interests are, you don't know who I am and you don't give a flying fuck through a rolling dough nut about what "my interests" are. Quit speaking for me and millions of others. We hate you like poison and wish you would go away.

16. "What the American people need to know is...."
It's one of his favorite ways to start one of his meaningless crappings.

"It's very important for the American people to know that we're constantly thinking about how to secure the homeland, protect our interests and use all assets available to do our jobs," said the president."

The preznit's constantly thinking about . . . what?

All we can hope is that he's not really planning to "use all assets available," because we really can't afford anymore of this repo-horseshit. Reminds me of his daddy in the supermarket being shawked and awled by the checkout scanner. If king george cared, he'd let you keep more of your money by cutting payroll taxes and making the TOM pay royalties on the oil they extract from our land.

18. You and me both! I'm sick of this.
Just paid my exorbitant electric bill (very hot months here) and told my husband we wouldn't be eating well for a while and we wouldn't be spending any extra money!

Our electric company hiked the rates 30% and told me they would be hiking rates again by the time next month's bill is mailed. This has to be a result of oil prices.

Yes, this "doing without" is not sitting well with Americans these days.

He must have been watching the Cutty Sark sailing through troubled waters on the bottle label and came up with this stupid line.

17. so "no nation-building" bush is now "leave behind a better world" bush.
and why do we have to leave, george? can't we just stay home, make money, and let other countries work things out without being poisoned permanently with depleted uranium, killing 100,000 innocents, and creating total havoc?

21. Nation! Nation!! Nation!!!
The United States of America is a nation. We are NOT a f*cking "homeland"! I have hated that term since the first time * used it post 9/11. It reeks of Hitler's "Fatherland" and Stalin's "Motherland."

And what does this mean: "I'm confident in our capacity to leave behind a better world." He's already said he's going to dump Iraq on the next president, so who's this "our" he's talking about? And what does it mean to "leave behind a better world"? That sounds almost End Times to me.
