Ney Formally Withdraws from Ballot, Triggers Special Primary
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. Bob Ney formally requested Monday that his name be removed from the November election ballot, ensuring that a special primary election will be held to replace him as the Republican candidate. His letter officially notifying election officials ends a week of speculation about whether he would wait until after August 19, when party leaders would have been able to appoint a replacement.

Ney announced he would withdraw from the race a week ago, citing the strain of an intensifying corruption investigation that had focused for months on his dealings with lobbyists. The six-term congressman denies any wrongdoing and has not been charged.

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett said he spoke to Ney on Monday morning and they discussed the decision to have a primary instead of letting local party officials choose a new candidate. "He told me he really thought the voters of the district should make the decision in selecting the candidate, rather than the party chairmen," Bennett said.

Interesting to see if the "sore loser" law comes into play here.

5. Can't say how it will turn out, but right now Ohio is looking like a
REAL good prospect for Democrats in November.

Adios to Ney -- he was essentially worthless to begin with and I doubt if anybody will miss him.

Now let's knock off Blackwell, DeWine, and Mean Jean Schmidt.

9. And another one bites the dust...
The likely fill-in, Joy Padgett, looks like she's got her own demons to contend with. The good news is, if she wins it'll be easy to tell when she's being bribed. All the lobbyists going into her office will smell suspiciously of cheeseburgers and HoHos.

15. ROFLMAO! Ho Hos
That's so good!

Actually, Joy is already soiled with Ney's dirty Indian Casino exploitation money. Like all Republicans in Ohio, she's a pig that fed at the same trough.

16. Wish you were here
It's looking like there may be as many as four candidates. They want to have the election next month. I hope they eat each other up.

14. I think it's a good thing,
in that the voters get to make the decision instead of the Repubs. At least they will get the chance to decide who their Representative will be, not like here in Texas where BugBoy DeLay wanted to choose for the district bypassing the voters to make that decision.
And because of that big mistake the Repubs won't have a candidate at all. Which turned out to be a very good thing. Gov. Perry could have called a special election to let the voters decide, but they thought they could get away with gaming the system, and it backfired BIG Time.

Who knows what Blackwell would have done to game the system....
