U.S. Military Unveils New, Hard to Copy, Iraqi National Police Uniform
BAGHDAD, IRAQ (AP) -- The U.S. military unveiled a new uniform Monday for Iraq's national police that will be difficult to copy -- a move aimed at preventing insurgents, death squads, and common criminals from impersonating officers.

The new bluish-gray uniform, presented to reporters by Maj. Gen. Joseph Peterson, is similar to that worn by U.S. soldiers but with the Iraqi flag embedded in the fabric's print. It will be issued beginning in October.

5. So the Iraqi security forces can issue some real uniforms
out the back door. If they do not clean up the security forces
and weed out the militiamen that have infiltrated them, then
this exercise is pointless. This is a technical fix to a
fundamental people problem.

6. Now If We Can Only Find Police Officers To Fill Them . . .
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Hundreds of newly recruited police officers in Fallujah failed to show up for work Sunday after insurgents disseminated pamphlets threatening officers who stayed on the job, according to police officials in the restive western Iraq city.

"We will kill all the policemen infidels," read the pamphlets, "whether or not they quit or are still in their jobs."

Fallujah Police Lt. Mohammed Alwan said that the force, which he estimated had increased to more than 2,000, has now shrunk to only 100.

Alwan said that insurgents have killed dozens of policemen in their homes and also attacked family members in a weekslong intimidation campaign.

A Fallujah police major, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to a fear of reprisals, said that at least 1,400 policemen had left their jobs since Friday, 400 of them police officials above the rank of officer.

"During the last three months more than 100 policemen were killed here," including a number of senior officers, the police major said.

Do the new militias even need police uniforms anymore?

7. The Problem Was Bad Uniforms?
Well, this will certainly lead to less violence, less bombing, more new schools being built, less pipelines being blown-up --- now that the Iraqi police will have hard to counterfeit uniforms.

Nice to know that the geniuses at the GOPentagon are putting in all those extra work hours to come up with these winning strategies.

:sarcasm:
