U.S.: Iraqi Shiites get help from Iran
Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military has evidence that Shiite extremists in Iraq are receiving arms and training from Iran, but it is not clear if the Iranian government is involved, a U.S. spokesman said Monday.

"We know that some Shiite elements have been in Iran receiving training," U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell told reporters. "But the degree to which it is known and endorsed by the government of Iran is uncertain."

The Iranian government did not immediately respond to the comments.

"We do know that weapons have been provided and IED technology been made available to these extremist elements," Caldwell said, referring to improvised explosive devices, or homemade bombs, that are in widespread use in Iraq's insurgency and sectarian conflict.

1. to talk about another country 'helping' one Iraqi sect or another
while we're there controlling our own set of sects is ludicrous, IMO.

2. Hey, US spokesman, the Badr Brigade got training in Iran.
Like, through more than a decade's worth when they were seen as traitors for being on Iran's side in the Iran-Iraq war.

But since the US likes them more than al-Sadr, we never hear about that, do we.

4. So Which Story Is True?
This one:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - There is no evidence the Iranian government is stirring trouble in
Iraq, a U.S. general said on Monday, playing down suggestions that Tehran will retaliate for U.S. backing of
Israel's war on Hizbollah.

"There is nothing that we definitively have found to say that there are any Iranians operating within the country of Iraq," Major General William Caldwell, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq, told a news conference.

Or this one:

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military has evidence that Shiite extremists in Iraq are receiving arms and training from Iran, but it is not clear if the Iranian government is involved, a U.S. spokesman said Monday.

Looks like the Admin is talking out of both sides of its' mouth and no one is calling them on it. When it's time to stoke up support for attacking Iran it "The U.S. military has evidence that Shiite extremists in Iraq are receiving arms and training from Iran", when they want everyone to think everything is peachy in Iraq it's "There is no evidence the Iranian government is stirring trouble in
Iraq". Amazing propagandists!
