Hezbollah fighter hit in first clash with Israelis since ceasefire
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 04:53 AM by maddezmom
JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli troops in south Lebanon opened fire early Monday on a group of armed Hezbollah fighters "approaching in a threatening way," and hit one, the army said.

The army said it did not know if the fighter had been killed or wounded, but said the Israelis "fired in self-defence." The clash, near the village of Hadatha, happened about three hours after a UN-brokered ceasefire came into effect, the army said.

short blurb will look for more

A first fire incident punctuated the cease-fire, however, when Israel Defense Forces soldiers shot dead a Hezbollah militant who sprang from a hiding place and opened fire at them. The clash took place near the village of Ghanduriya, in central south Lebanon.

Senior officers said the gunbattle was within the instructions for opening fire, which allow troops to fire at Hezbollah members who pose a life threat.

According to the officers, the fire incident does not jeopardize the cease-fire.

1. Well THAT was quick.
I am so sure that "approaching in a threatening way" isn't at all open to interpretation.

5. Did you read the entire article?
"A first fire incident punctuated the cease-fire, however, when Israel Defense Forces soldiers shot dead a Hezbollah militant who sprang from a hiding place and opened fire at them."

It clearly states that the IDF soldiers were fired upon and returned fire. I sounds like Hezbollah were the first to break the ceasefire!

6. It clearly states what the IDF has reported to the press. Nothing more.
Given the incredible number of innocent Lebanese civilians murdered, I wouldn't take your little quotation to the bank.

9. Did I miss the Hezbollah press release?
Dispute Israel's version all you want, but you have no other information.

I like how you equate 'civilians killed' with honesty. If only Hezbollah had better artillery to carry out their repeated attacks on civilians...

BTW, did the cowards turn over the kidanap victims yet?

7. If the Haaretz article is correct
it was justified

There is not a lot of C&C with a militia to begin with and hisotircally militia discipline is not like that of regular army.
