Israel says 19 soldiers killed on Saturday

JERUSALEM, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Nineteen Israeli soldiers were killed on Saturday in clashes with Hizbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon, an Israeli army spokeswoman said on Sunday.

The army had said earlier 11 troops were killed in southern Lebanon on Saturday and that more than 70 had been wounded.

1. Very sad. That tends to happen when you invade another country.
The U.S. has continued to pay that price as well.

3. Tends to happen
when a terrorist group attacks your country. Hezbollah is not a country, Israel is. Hezbollah attacked Israel from Lebanese soil.

May the 19 Israeli soldiers rest in peace.

12. Israel was FIRST to start bombing
Lebanon cities in response to the capture of the 2 Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah. In response to the bombing by Israel, Hezbollah started lobbing missiles into Northern Israel. The capture of the Israeli soldiers was a convenient excuse to start the well designed destruction of Lebanon. There has even been speculation that the Israeli soldiers were on Lebanese soil when they were captured. That is plausible since there have been incursions into Lebanon by the IDF since the 'withdrawal' of Israeli troops from their 18 year occupation of Lebanon in 2000. Israel's thirsty fascination with Lebanon is wholely transparent to many people. As far as the legitimacy of Hezbollah, they are represented in Lebanese politics and acting in defense of their country fully aware of the threat of Israel who covet parcels of Lebanon territory.

13. Wrong.
Hezbollah launched a barrage of missiles into northern Israel as a diversion when they kidnapped the soldiers.

9. Dover its no use
You can't tell a stubborn person to think or see things differently, they will repeat the same BS fed to them by the government or government influenced media. By the way all of this started over two kidnapped soldiers, good going idiots.

14. Ironic? No, Amazing. Some ceasefire!
Israeli troops and air cover are sent into Lebanon to try and destroy as much of Hezbollah's defense system as possible (as well as continued destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure) before UN forces arrives; that is until the 'ceasefire agreement' is put into effect. That might take several days or longer. Meanwhile Israel can continue to bomb and destroy. Who can blame Hezbollah for not laying down their weapons and rolling over?
I think it is counter productive and really outrageous that Israel is to be the 'tool' to drive Hezbollah out of South Lebanon so UN forces can move in.

7. These soldiers died for some last minute political jockeying
And who knows how many Lebanese died at the same time (Hezbollah or innocent civilians). Leaders are jockeying for advantage before the ceasefire - none of which will mean anything in a week or two. But the families will have a lifetime to grieve.
