CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush said Saturday that a scheme to blow up several flights between Britain and the United States was carefully planned and well-advanced, with the potential to cause "death on a massive scale."

In his most extensive comments on the disrupted plot, Bush said it was a stark reminder that terrorists still aim to kill Americans five years after the Sept. 11 attacks.

"This plot is further evidence that the terrorists we face are sophisticated and constantly changing their tactics," Bush said in his weekly radio address, taped Friday at his Texas ranch and broadcast Saturday.

"We must never make the mistake of thinking the danger of terrorism has passed," Bush said. "This week's experience reminds us of a hard fact - the terrorists have to succeed only once to achieve their goal of mass murder, while we have to succeed every time to stop them."

not mandated El-Al level security for air carriers operating in the U.S.? And why were these measures not implemented as soon as practical following 9/11?

If the threat is as dire as you make it out to be, anything less borders on treason.

Oh, you say, we must not over-react, subject the public to unnecessary expenditures.

So, I can only reach the following conclusions regarding the GOP, Sir.

They are either 1) Displaying incompetence bordering on treason in their response to a clear and present danger; or
2) Displaying near criminal contempt for the citizens of this country by blowing out of all proportion the terrorism threat that faces us for purely political reasons.

16. I am so cynical now. I think they could have invented this just as

they set up those poor uneducated people in Florida. Those guys thought they were taking the agents to the cleaners and they were being set up to show that our leaders were finding terrorists. Our idiots have let terrorists into the country by not protecting our borders or keeping tract of visitors, and now they want to pretend that they care about making us safe. I wonder why the majority of people can't see how our own administration as been making us less safe.
