Newsweek:The Ripple Effect (surprising poll findings!)
The foiled airline plot boosts President Bush's terror ratings, but the new NEWSWEEK Poll finds a lot for Democrats to cheer as the midterm elections approach.

Updated: 1 hour, 23 minutes ago

Aug. 12, 2006 - Even after British officials revealed a terrorist plot to blow up as many as 10 jetliners traveling from the U.K. to the United States, using ordinary-looking liquid explosives smuggled into airplane cabins, a majority of Americans still aren't willing to part with their carry-ons.

snip...

Still, the most murderous terror plot to be publicly exposed since 9/11 disrupted more than air travel. It roiled public opinion too. While the NEWSWEEK Poll suggests President George W. Bush and the GOP-led Congress have plenty to worry about just three months before the midterm congressional elections, it shows a slight uptick in the president's lagging approval rating and a significant boost in voters' opinions of his handling of the terror threat.

According to the poll, conducted through phone interviews with 1,001 Americans, 55 percent disapprove of how the president is doing his job, while 38 percent approve, an increase of 3 points since the May 11-12 NEWSWEEK Poll. But a majority, 55 percent, approve of Bush's handling of terrorism and homeland security (40 percent disapprove), an 11-point boost since May, returning the president to levels not seen since early 2005.

1. It is impossible - or nearly - to compare polls, so a lot of what they
are saying in bull. Especially when both are in the margin of error.

The point is that less than 1/3 of the people support Bush and those are obviously the dumbest or most uninformed third.

8. WHY do people think that bush is protecting us from
terrorist attacks? I figure if there was any Real evidence that he and his intel bunch had actually stopped an attack, such as the Brits are dealing with now, we would hear about it day in and day out. The Pakistanis, Germany, England, etc. have all provided us with intel, some of which we ignored before 9-11. Bushco had Nothing to do with this new threat discovery! How can the media skip right over this glaring fact?? And claim he is keeping us safe. Worse yet, it appears a whole bunch of people see him as actually doing or performing acts or laws that have caused us not to have been attacked since 9-11. If the Admin. is asked what threats have been thwarted they claim its a secret! Right ......

This logic falls in with that of many religions, blind faith, wanna believe, etc. It is easier than thinking.

9. The British foiled the terrorist plot. Not Bush.
But some people just like saying that they support the president because it makes them feel all patriotic and fuzzy inside. I have a relative whose policy is to ALWAYS vote for the incumbent president when he is up for re-election, because he says that that is just the patriotic thing to do. At least his vote will be up for grabs in 2008.

12. now we know where to hit these losers!
if voters still approve of Bush's handling of terrorism, we need to hit them where it hurts. Democrats should be running ads reminding people that 9/11 was Bush's failure to do his job as President. We should remind people that not allowing passengers, who paid for their plane tickets, to have their carry-ons is nothing more than a tax on voters for Bush's failure to enforce the law.

if only 38% of still approve of Bush's job performance, these are the same people who even voted for Bush's dad in 92. If his approve ratings are this low, that is allot of Republican votes who can be won in November..if we run the right kind of campaign.

Republicans didn't let voters forget about the Reno's attacks in Waco, or Clinton's nation-building with no exit strategy. So why should we allow Bush to get away with this now?

14. 55 pct Americans back Bush on U.S. security - Newsweek

http://in.today.reuters.com/News/newsArticle.aspx?type=worldNews&storyID=2006-08-13T072921Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-263399-1.xml

55 pct Americans back Bush on U.S. security - Newsweek

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fifty-five percent of Americans approve of U.S. President George W. Bush's handling of homeland security, an 11 percent jump from May, according to a Newsweek poll released on Saturday.

The poll was taken Thursday and Friday, after British authorities foiled a plot to use chemical bombs to bring down as many as 10 airliners flying from Britain to the United States.

Bush's approval rating rose to 38 percent, a 3-point increase since Newsweek conducted its last poll in May.

Fifty-four percent of respondents said they would oppose a ban on all carry-on baggage on commercial flights, the poll said.

Like the detail that it was the British that did this. And that we have cut spending on security etc. BUT...
Look for a series of these types of stopping of terrorism. Remember those young men in Miami?

32. It's human nature. The same way someone who wants to fight against
corporations gets more support then someone who looks at it from a goal based perspective. People like the fight attitude. More often then not passionate stands against something don't accomplish the tasks in a desirable way yet they are very useful in generating support.

37. Security from what
Everything bad has happened under Bush's watch; so either he's in on it, or he's making all this stuff
up. He has a war going he can't figure out what to do with; and wanting to start another with Iran.
He's just bull of crap, and owns the media, nothing more. I don't trust him with anything.

For once, I'd think people would be more concerned about our freedom he continues to take from us,
and our social security he's trying to "privatize" (cut us off),revising medicare (trimming it down) to many doctors will not be willing to have us as patients; and the cost of gas is out of hand,
thanks to the Bush administration. He's the worst president in my memory, and I'm pretty darned old.

So to hell with their polls; they must be going to a republican fundraiser to get their survey. That's where you'd have to go to find the lazy president. Surely there's just not that many stupid people out there...or are there?
