Fletcher may be haunted by ruling
Merit system case isn't going away

By Elisabeth J. Beardsley

The Courier-Journal

Gov. Ernie Fletcher could come to regret yesterday's court decision saying he won't have to face a criminal trial while in office, according to some lawmakers and political experts.

Senate President David Williams said yesterday the ruling was more bad news for Fletcher because it raised the "specter of impeachment" and only delayed but didn't end the prosecution. Last month he said he doesn't think Fletcher can be re-elected.

"If anybody ever gives him a nickname, it's not going to be 'Lucky,' " Williams, R-Burkesville, said.

Williams declined to comment on potential impeachment because senators are required to sit as jurors if the House passes articles of impeachment.

1. two of a kind
I see so many comparisons between these two Current Occupants, who each came into office behind a Bible and wrapped in a flag. Inept, unable to change, mounting failure, etc. But--ol' Ernie is an incumbent and has no apparent powerful backers left. He's just about gone. Ol' GWB will ride into the sunset and his powerful backers have a hell of an investment which they will protect no matter what.

What a disastrous choice the voters made in each case, what a black mark on history.

Call me gloomy in KY,
