Olmert thanks Bush for U.N. resolution

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert thanked President Bush on Friday for his work on a resolution to stop violence between Israel and Hezbollah, the White House said. It was the first direct talks between the two leaders since the fighting began.

The eight-minute phone call with Bush at his ranch in Texas was initiated by Olmert, said Frederick Jones, spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House.

Olmert endorsed a Mideast cease-fire plan that the United States and France proposed Friday at the United Nations.

"Prime Minister Olmert thanked President Bush for the work he had done on the draft U.N. resolution on the Lebanon crisis," Jones said. "The president expressed his view that the crisis was provoked by Hezbollah with the support of Iran and Syria and that we need to ensure that the reach of the Lebanese government extends throughout the country."

1. The more they spin about Iran and Syria support of Hezbollah
The more people all over the world stare at US support to Israel.
Just shut the fuck up and let peace take it course.

This is all so stupid.

How kind of Bush to give him a sound-bite instead of just a
simple 'your welcome'. I'm sure he also thanked Bush for giving him this month to vent a little as well.

5. Here is the scandal: today was the first time Bush spoke with Olmert
by phone. Can you imagine a Clinton, or Gore, or Carter, or Kerry, or even a Poppy Bush and a Reagan not calling Israel's PM about this war the moment it started?

8. Well said. It's disgraceful.
It's also more evidence that this whole thing was scripted. Rice was killing time while the script played out. Junior didn't even bother pretending he cared.

10. Bush interrupts vacation to take phone call from Olmert
President George W. Bush finally spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert late Friday, their first contact since the war in Lebanon began.

The president had been criticised for not communicating directly with Olmert during the worst crisis in the Middle East for decades.

Bush is presently on vacation at his ranch in Craford, Texas, his fifty-ninth visit since assuming the presidency.

Friday's telephone call took 8 minutes. Olmert reportedly thanked the president for America's support of Israel and for its efforts at the United Nations. He reminded President Bush the war in Lebanon is part of the war on terror. Bush reportedly recalled that Hezbollah provoked the current conflict with its capture of two soldiers. He also noted Iran and Syria's part in funding Hezbollah, and commented that there is a need for the Lebanon government to exert its authority.
