Gay Activists to Campaign Against Military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"Policy
EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA (AP) -- On paper, Haven Herrin seems to be an ideal candidate for military recruiters. She can easily run five miles and was valedictorian of her college class. "Frankly, I'm exactly the kind of person the military says it wants," she said.

But when Herrin tried recently to sign up for the Minnesota National Guard, she was turned down because she told the recruiter she is a lesbian -- a revelation that tripped the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy banning openly gay service members.

(This story is about gays trying to sign up for the military -- but "telling" -- to challenge the policy.)

1. If gays can't marry or join our military
then why the hell do they have to pay taxes? Equal protection my veterans ass!

I urge gays to start chucking the tea in the harbor.

I have to ask myself, macho marines would rather shower with straight guys then with gay guys?

I'm a veteran, and I just don't understand. Guess I'm not a fucking homophobic moron. BTW, many proud professional military personnel are serving in uniform today, and they are gay.

3. Why is gays in the military so impossible in the US?
What other advanced western countries are so homophobic? Why can't the US catch up to the world?

4. WTF
Don't they have anything better to do?

They are going to spend time on this when there is so much more to focus on!

5. I'm gay and I don't support allowing gays in the military.
I don't support broadening the recruitment pool for these criminal wars of aggression. I don't support strengthening (by allowing gays in) the military in this way.

6. How about the Coast Guard?
Military service is not an agent of war, per se, it merely has the potential to be, when used as such by a bad administration.

negotiated this policy - long before he signed the Defense of Marriage Act.
