Many anti-abortion groups oppose the morning-after pill, which is made by Barr Laboratories, because they believe it can prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus.
Steve Jarding, a consultant to the Webb campaign, said Allen "panders to the far right wing of his party as a staunch pro-lifer" while making money off the manufacturer of an emergency-contraception pill.
Wadhams (Allen campaign manager) said the anti-abortion community is divided over the pill. The National Right-to-Life Committee, for example, is not opposed to it, he said. A spokesman for the Virginia Right-to-Life Committee could not be reached for comment.
Wadhams said Allen has not taken a stand on the pill. He did not participate in a Senate debate on it last week, he said.
Allen owns between $1,000 and $15,000 worth of the stock, according to financial disclosure reports.
