GOP Candidates Facing Troublesome Trend
GOP Candidates Facing Troublesome Trend
By DONNA CASSATA , 08.11.2006, 03:03 AM

Republicans determined to win in November are up against a troublesome trend - growing opposition to President Bush.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted this week found the president's approval rating has dropped to 33 percent, matching his low in May. His handling of nearly every issue, from the Iraq war to foreign policy, contributed to the president's decline around the nation, even in the Republican-friendly South.

More sobering for the GOP are the number of voters who backed Bush in 2004 who are ready to vote Democratic in the fall's congressional elections - 19 percent. These one-time Bush voters are more likely to be female, self-described moderates, low- to middle-income and from the Northeast and Midwest.

Two years after giving the Republican president another term, more than half of these voters - 57 percent - disapprove of the job Bush is doing.

"The signs now point to the most likely outcome of Democrats gaining control of the House," said Robert Erikson, a Columbia University political science professor.

1. and, pray, tell me, why is restoring our Republic 'troublesome' to
forbes, eh?

I find nothing troubling about it. Quite the contrary. After living through six years of hell, it's great to see the sheeple catching on.

candidates moving away from * in true earnest.

They'll say whatever they need to get elected and re-elected. They will take their oath and then continue rubberstamping whatever * does and wants. No hearings, no curtailment of our military in Iraq. Status quo if we're lucky. Military police state if we aren't.

I don't believe in the system, I don't believe the citizens will take control of their country again.

9. Poll: Bush may be hurting Republicans
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060811/ap_on_el_ge/republicans_ap_poll

WASHINGTON - Republicans determined to win in November are up against a troublesome trend — growing opposition to President Bush.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted this week found the president's approval rating has dropped to 33 percent, matching his low in May. His handling of nearly every issue, from the Iraq war to foreign policy, contributed to the president's decline around the nation, even in the Republican-friendly South.

Two years after giving the Republican president another term, more than half of these voters — 57 percent — disapprove of the job Bush is doing.

"The numbers ... are similar to what I'm hearing out in the streets," said Democrat Ed Perlmutter, a primary winner Tuesday in a competitive House race in Colorado. "I talked to so many people and they've had enough and want to see a change."

11. "May be?"
While it's often a good idea to be cautious in making inferences from survey results, I mean, come on. I think the authors of this article are being way too cautious here.

13. 33 percent!!!!! Whooohoooo!!!
This is SUCH good news.

The cockles of my heart are always warmed and
gleaming with shimmering tingles, when more
people in this nation awaken to the realization
that Junior is nothing but a stenchy, Fascist poopybutt.

(I think I'll cross stitch that on a big pillow!)

16. Re: "..outcome of Democrats gaining control of the House,"

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN... The Voting Machines are in place and the game is fixed.

NO WAY The Bushistas, the Chennyites and the Rovians will allow a lawful transfer of power. They will do whatever is needed to prevent congress from falling into Democratic hands. They know all too well that the Democrats will launch a series of intense investigations that will expose te criminality of this administration and the collaborators in Congress and the private sector.

I will put up $1,000 and let a 3rd party hold is as a bet. People can take $100 stakes.

My wager: Come the day after the November election, the GOP will have retained the majority.

any takers?

22. But why?
If the people care so little for how their votes are counted (there being plenty of evidence that the counts are corrupted) why should anyone become an activist in a losing cause?

He put up a $1000 bucks, that's saying something, actually quite a bit more than you....

Of course, you are not one of those who believes there is not problem with e-voting, are you?

25. dropping to 33%
Zeno's paradox describes a situation where every successive step to your goal covers half the distance to it. You are always approaching but never reach the goal.
Chimpy's numbers have been falling toward 33% for months, but he never seems to quite get there.
I think maybe if this information weren't processed through the corporate biased media it might be more like 20%.
Not that it matters. I'd have to engage a foe as foul as this one no matter how badly I was outnumbered.
