EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana has welcomed a Swedish proposal to have an international donor conference on Lebanon.
Mr Solana said it was going to be conference on "relief and recovery", to raise funds to repair roads and bridges and to secure the re-opening of hospitals and schools as soon as possible after a ceasefire.
"I believe the Europeans will be among the main donors", Mr Solana said in a phone-interview with Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter.
"I have talked with many European leaders and gained the impression that there is broad agreement on mobilising economical resources for Lebanon", Mr Solana said in reaction to a proposal made by Swedish prime minister Goran Persson in a public speech on Sunday (6 August).
