6. I think it is over 100 now
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 05:34 PM by daleo
Haeretz (sp?) had a story the other day, and I think they said fatalities were in the 90's then. I think at least two-thirds are military personnel.

I don't know of any equivalent to "icasualties" yet.

Edit - Ha'aretz.

Another edit - Here is something from the CBC website today:

"Since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began, 67 Israeli soldiers have been killed.
...Since the fighting began, Associated Press reported, at least 700 people have died in Lebanon and at least 103 have died in Israel. Reuters is reporting that just over 1,000 have died in Lebanon."

13. As an aside, one night on CNN I noticed
that they were reporting the deaths/wounded, and for Lebanon it was something like: 640 killed, 920 wounded (not those numbers, just an example) and for Israel it said: 120 killed 600+ wounded (again, not the real numbers, just an illustration)

It was that "plus sign" that really got to me!! Subtle, very subtle, but they didn't have one on the Lebanese stats.

Really grated me the wrong way.

5. 15 soldiers killed Wednesday in south Lebanon
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 04:40 PM by Scurrilous
<snip>

"Fifteen Israel Defense Forces troops were killed on Wednesday as fierce fighting with Hezbollah guerillas raged in the southern Lebanon villages of Ayta al-Shaab and Dibel, the IDF annonced late Wednesday night.

10 IDF soldiers were reported injured in the battle. They were evacuated to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa and to the Rebecca Sieff Hospital in Safed for treatment."

15 reservists killed in Lebanon battles

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3288870,00.html

Nine elite unit troops killed after missile fired by Hizbullah causes building they were in to collapse. More than 20 soldiers injured in incident. Forces on the ground report of difficulties in rescuing wounded. Six more soldiers killed in three other incidents

<snip>

"Nine elite IDF unit soldiers were killed, seven troops have been seriously injured, and 10 sustained light to moderate wounds after a building they were staying in collapsed as a result of a missile strike in the Lebanese village of Dibel.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Hizbullah gunmen fired several missiles at a structure in which the soldiers were staying. One missile hit the
building, causing an arms cache to explode. Several soldiers were hurt as a result. A short while later, the structure partially collapsed, and a few other troops were hurt as well.

The forces on the ground reported of difficulties in rescuing the soldiers that have been buried underneath the rubble. Home Front Command units stationed in northern Israel have also been placed on high alert in case they need to enter Lebanon and assist with the rescue efforts."

8. Thats sad.
They were quite possibly young reservists who were going about normal lives not more than a month ago.

Today the Israeli government sat in their nice air conditioned offices decided to give lots more young Israeli reservists the opportunity to die a pointless death taking land that will be given up again.

31. Good angle on that.
I do feel sort of bad for the IDF, in that they are being forced by their rightwing expansionist government to kill innocent civilians, and they're close to that themselves due to their mandated military service.

A cease-fire would be really nice, especially since I think Israel's war crime-spree is intended to draw out Arab/Muslim countries to lash out and thus escalate the conflict.

14. Its about choices
You sign up to be a soldier

Sometimes you die

Some times you die for nothing

Some times you are drafted

You have the choice to go with the flow

Or you choose not to participate in the KILLING

Its about choices.

15. Yes, Saigon, but I remember being 18.
I was far too ignorant then to know I was ignorant,
and would have done anything to "serve my country".

And my children at that age were no better.
I could tell them what was going on, but their ears
were still full of teenage-ear wax.

So I feel sorry for all soldiers, as well as for their
victims. Many are just dumb kids who will either be
killed or turned into killers.

30. That's why they draft 18 year olds
But in this case they use more subtle tactics to spur enlistment.

Like their fucking "army of one" shooting video game

Where one can hose an army of Brown IslamoFascists and blow their brains out for Mommy.

Kind of like in my war where you could " KILL A COMMIE FOR MOMMY"

16. The Leaders Of The World SUCK At Math...
They're EVIL FUCKING BASTARDS, who don't give a Shit about any lives, beyond those of their own friends and family.

So, they claim this started because 2 soldiers were kidnapped. If that's the case, HOW MANY have died in the so-called "name" of rescuing the soldiers?

And then there's 9/11. The "line" by the fucking King george administration is that one reason we went into Iraq was 9 fucking 11. We're now almost to the point where more soldiers will have died in Iraq, than died in all the attacks of 9/11/01.

It's a pathetic world we live in, and getting worse by the day.

26. Yes, the MATH REALLY SUCKS.
It would be truly horrible if Us/Israel plans to kill enough people to end terra. Even today, people are surrendering their Jihadist Styling Gel in order to board airplanes because that is today's solution. (Yesterday's was toenail clippers.) Tomorrow, terrist might try boats or cars instead of planes

Today, Israel thinks it will be safe if it occupies the territory to the Litani River. What if Hezbollah uses longer range rockets? Do they need to occupy the whole country? Will they then be safe? If Hezbollah wore red coats and marched up to the border to be annihilated, would that keep the young men in the refugee camps from growing up to replace them? Better kill them, too. Better keep on until millions are exterminated in Bush's loooong war.

They, the neocons and their complicit media, have given us another false choice - you either support bush and olmert unconditionally or you give up, become a defeat-ocrat is the newest. As if there could be no other course. This is to distract from the belief of many that the neocon strategy is doomed to fail despite our superior forces because it fails to acknowledge the continued creation of an enemy of superior numbers. Our economy will give out supporting our war machine before their numbers stop supporting the guerrilla war against us.

19. Hard to say. It seems a 10/1 ratio is being touted
That is probably pretty accurate, but you can't trust the figures from either side. And, of course you can count any man of fighting age killed in Southern Lebanon to be Hezbullah. Also, if they forced their families to stay during the fighting in houses where they had rockets, then they might carry some of the blame. War is a messy and stats tend to hide the brutal reality.

25. According to the Israeli Justice minister, *everyone* now remaining
in southern Lebanon is connected to Hezbollah, and is therefore a legitimate target. So in the eyes of the Israeli leadership, there are no civilians.

...thus trapping people.

These war crimes are looking more and more deliberately designed to draw a violent Arab/Muslim response.
