Top Democrats throw support to Lamont
Blame for Lieberman loss laid on Bush connection

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., threw their support behind Connecticut upset winner Ned Lamont this morning.

Both senators issued a joint statement this morning on the Connecticut Senate race, saying, in part, "The Democratic voters of Connecticut have spoken and chosen Ned Lamont as their nominee. Both we and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) fully support Mr. Lamont's candidacy. Congratulations to Ned on his victory and on a race well run."

They laid the blame for incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman's loss on his connection to President George W. Bush, saying, "Joe Lieberman has been an effective Democratic Senator for Connecticut and for America. But the perception was that he was too close to George Bush and this election was, in many respects, a referendum on the President more than anything else. The results bode well for Democratic victories in November and our efforts to take the country in a new direction."

3. Lamont will not win the general. Having Sharpton on stage hurt him a lot.
Sharpton is very unpopular with independents and moderate Democrats in CT.

25. Your side lost the primary.
If you want there to continue to be a Democratic Party, you had best get behind the winner. All those times where we were told to hold our nose and pick the lesser of two evils, and yet you guys still think that you owe no loyalty to the party that has stood by you.

5. Dunno where the hate for Chuckie is coming from
Unlike the idiots that think this was only an anti-war vote, they called it right. It was an anti-Bush, anti-GOP vote. Anyone who cooperates with these monsters cannot be a good Democrat. It's just not possible. I can even ALMOST understand supporting the war, although it leaves me shaking my head, but to cooperate with these fucking THUGS is not in any way understandable. They have no intention of ever compromising about anything, unless you force them to do it. Theirs is an agenda of hate.

10. But that was part of the rovian tactics the Lamont campaign used
Lieberman's always been a good loyal moderate to liberal Democrat. You cannot ever find a time when he ever threatened to leave the party or even find any sensible Democrat -- who thought that was ever anything to worry about.

The truth is, Lieberman -- like the DLC -- opposed Bush much much much more often than they supported him.

I expect Joe to do a much better job of defending his progressive votes and pointing out how his words were twisted by Lamont and his cronies. He learned the hard way that ignoring lies and smears never works.

28. I will assume that this is satire
Especially with "You cannot ever find a time when he ever threatened to leave the party", since he is right now in the process of leaving the Party. If so, then bravo sir. The hallmark of great satire is the difficulty in noticing it's satirical nature.

29. Ya, Lamont and his powerful cronies were behind his loss
Lamont's "cronies" were the little people; the bloggers; anti-war activists; anyone that was not already part of the DC establishment. You need to get on board with who the DEMOCRATIC voters of CT voted for. Unless of course, you just don't give a shit who they voted for and you believe there is no point in having a primary?

9. Meanwhile... DLC Vice chair says Lieberman should run as Independent:
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 12:12 PM by cyberpj
This is from a recent article in our local paper.
Tom Carper is one of our senators (Biden, the other) and the vice-chairman of the DLC.

"If Lieberman loses, Carper said he should follow through on his promise to run as an independent and rejoin the Democratic fold if he wins a three-way race in November."

40. He lost because of his closeness to Bush
and now, he's going to be even closer than ever; Carl Rove has already called George Stepanopolus, and offered their backing/support; so apparently,Joe still doesn't get it.He's turning into a Zell Miller.
I've seen his voting record, which was not overly shabby in years past, but, for some reason, when Bush
was "given" the presidency, Joe changed and became a puppet for Bush.

He's NOT doing this for the Democratic Party, he's doing it for himself and George Bush..

30. I call bullshit on this!
If Reid really wants to help Lamont, he needs to take away Lamont's opponent's committee assignments. One of the things that Lieberman is running on is how effective he is in bringing federal dollars to CT. It will be very hard for him to do that if he has no committee assignments.
