UN "stands idly by" Lebanon "bloodbath": Arab League
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - An Arab League delegation accused the Security Council on Tuesday of standing by idly while weeks of fighting between Israel and Lebanon's Hizbollah sew "the seeds of hatred and extremism" in the Middle East.

"It is most saddening that the council stands idly by, crippled, unable to stop the bloodbath which has become the bitter daily lot of the defenseless Lebanese people," Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al-Thani, the head of a three-man Arab League delegation, told the 15-nation council.

"What is happening will sew the seeds of hatred and extremism in the area and provide a pretext for those who feel that the international community is taking sides and lacks fairness as to this dispute," he told the 15-nation council.

And in the meantime the man who alone could stop this madness is busy clearing brush on his ranch in Texas.

12. You mean like their history books
Their history books about the crusades tell a slightly different story than do ours. The Arabns seem to have a much longer collective memory than do Americans. We don't seem to remember what happened last year let alone a century ago..

5. You know what?I'd rather have Mr.bush clearing brush in Texas
I want a true diplomat to get cracking on this. But I guess Mr.bush could give the go ahead signal to whomever would be doing the actual work on it, then he could go back to clearing brush.

7. My theory is
that Mr. brush clearing Bush is actually behind all this! What if he has the US paying large sums of money to Israel to keep things fired up? What if "Hexbollah" is actually a covert black operation paid by the Bushies? It's not so strange a notion. The PNAC'ers are capable of anything, especially if it involves blood for money!

Sometimes you just need to know how to spell, the machines aren't smart enough yet to *completely* replace the editors.

Let's look forward to when they are.

14. the Arab league is just as ineffective as the UN has been
all talk, no action

Between the UN and the Arab League, there no obvious pressure to shut down Hezbollah. Israel is negotiating from a position of strength and they have to accept Israel will act as long as the UN/Arab league do nothing to control Hezbollah.

19. Yep, it's the pot calling the kettle black, IMHO
All the Arab League has to do is agree amongst themselves to turn off the taps to the oil and this war would end tomorrow.

I was listening to the BBC World Service last night on public radio that the Lebanese government is towing the Hizbullah line because it fears civil war.

24. with the U.S. politicos of both sides greenlighting this, all UN can do
is stand idly by. Any attack here on the UN is nonsensical. They must behave as adults trying to coax dangerously unstable armed delinquents (US and Israel) into behaving like adults.
