NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Several concerts on the Dixie Chicks'"Accidents & Accusations" tour have been canceled after slow ticket sales, but the group says it has replaced them with other dates.

Kansas City, Houston, St. Louis, Memphis and Knoxville are among 14 cities no longer on the original schedule released in May, according to a revised itinerary posted Thursday on the Dixie Chick's Web site.

The North American leg of their "Accidents and Accusations" tour kicked off July 21 in Detroit. Billboard magazine and other trade publications have reported lackluster ticket sales in some markets, particularly in the South and Midwest. (AP Photo/Jason DeCrow)

Other shows, including Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix, have been pushed back to later dates.

The Omaha sales are slow. The concert was moved to the week of Thanksgiving. That might kill it as so many people travel etc. that week. I am no country music fan. But Marta and I bought two tickets and the new CD the week it was released because of their wonderful political stance about U KNOW WHO!

1. Yep, They moved...
...back their Sacramento date, too, to mid-November.

It harbors bad things for the red states. I notice that the dates they added are all international--Australia and Canada.

Of course, they're not getting any radio play on country stations, which would really help the ticket sales. I suspect that the reason the album is doing so well is because of libs/progs buying it to support them (of course, it's a good album, too--I especially like "I Hope," the song they did with Keb Mo').

5. I didn't know they were playing Sacto
I'm going to buy tickets. I am no country fan, so until this album, I had not really listened to their music. I liked it and I am going to watch for their show and buy advance tickets (something else I never do).

BTW, welcome to DU Jankyn :hi:

2. The Dixie Chicks, and others like them, are the new American Patriots.
They have stood up for what is right, and denounced wrongdoing at their own personal risk. This is what being a patriot and American is all about. By and large, Americans today are complacent and lazy. They will take abuse, they will accept being lied to, and they will laugh off political scandal as part of life.

WHY? WHY IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?

Thank goodness our forefathers were not so complacent, and stood up and fought against abuse at their own personal risk, so that their offspring could have a better life.

Now we're letting them take it away from us. The very people elected to protect our Constitution, and our rights and civil liberties, are lying to us, stealing our tax dollars, and breaking our laws, and they shrug it off.

WHY? WHY IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?

We're going to lose everything so many have died for in the past if we don't put our foot down and send the message that this is not to be tolerated. We allow our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters to work for minimum wage, which forces them to live in poverty, while our elected officials live in the lap of luxury.

And life goes on, no one wants to do anything about it. As long as people can afford to drive their SUVs to Wal-Mart, buy cheap crap made by slaves in China, which takes jobs away from America, everything is OK.

The new definition of America is lazy and complacent. They can screw us all they want, as long as they were a condom, right? Well guess what people, the condom is about to come off, and we will all die from the disease of American corporate greed and discrimination. And it will all be legal, because they will make it so.

It is an outrage, people. It's time for America to get its shit together and put a stop to it!

3. I think they oughta go on the road with Willie Nelson, myself
On a double bill, and do a few tunes together at mid-show--I think it would be historic, and some damn fine music. There is LIVE ALBUM potential there, too. And stadium sellout possibilities.

OTOH, It would cause a huge amount of cognitive dissonance amongst those who love Willie, but kinda ignore the fact that he's on the same page as these young ladies, and thinks they've gotten a rotten deal. But Willie is at a stage in his life where he can gleefully flip that braid back and say Fuck Y'All...!

Ever heard Willie Nelson's reggae album?

It's GOOD.

He's THAT skilled at his craft.

Hell of a guy, too.

8. They still have the same number of original shows
http://www.wbir.com/news/regional/story.aspx?storyid=36694
The Dixie Chicks still have 44 North American dates on the tour as first announced, though several of the markets have changed or been moved.

The demise of the Dixie Chicks has been greatly exaggerated.

20. It was indeed a great show.
I found it ironic that the country stations that don't play their records had tents outside the Joe that night. Bunch of hypocrites, ifn you ask me. Then again, the whole right wing of this country has a capital H on their chest.

The musicianship in that band is beyond belief. The crowd was there, and yes, half of the nearly sold out audience were new fans. Damn straight!

23. You're absolutely right re: the radio station tents.
The hypocrisy was indeed stunning, though I am rarely shocked by the depths of hypocrisy I see these days...

I am just really glad I got to go. The vibe was positively electric - I can seriously say it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to, and I have seen my share. As for their musicianship, damn straight is right. My husband (musician himself) tagged along with me, and for not liking country or even-sort-of-country at all, he found them extremely talented. I think he was surprised - he did not know what to expect. So they have at least one new fan. (I always liked them, actually. I was totally surprised to find any of them disagreed with the war, to be honest. I always figured they were stereotypical righties. Shame on me for that.)

17. I think I found my theme song on their album
I bought the album for "Not Ready to Make Nice," but it stays in my player for "Lubbock or Leave It." The song -- I'll post the lyrics below -- really sums up how it feels to grow up in the south, move elsewhere and then look back.

Dust bowl, Bible belt
Got more churches than trees
Raise me, praise me, couldn't save me
Couldn't keep me on my knees
Oh, boy, rave on down loop 289
That'll be the day you see me back
In this fool's paradise

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now

Throwing stones from the top of your rock
Thinking no one can see
The secrets you hide behind
Your southern hospitality
On the strip the kids get lit
So they can have a real good time
Come Sunday they can just take their pick
From the crucifix skyline

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Get to heaven now

International airport
A quarter after nine
Paris Texas, Athens Georgia's
Not what I had in mind
As I'm getting out I laugh to myself
Cause this is the only place
Where as you're getting on the plane
You see Buddy Holly's face

I hear they hate me now
Just like they hated you
Maybe when I'm dead and gone
I'm gonna get a statue too

Temptation's strong
(Salvation's gone)
I'm on my way
To hell's half acre
How will I ever
How will I ever
Get to heaven now
Get to heaven now
How will I ever

Get to heaven now

21. Could it have anything to w/ the PRICE?
I just priced the Mnn. show, one of two available...

65 per ticket
2 tickets
10 service charge per ticket

150 bucks

10 parking, if lucky
25 for the t-shirt
20-30 for drinks in the concert

200 bucks, easy, to see someone in a freking convention center.

No wonder ticket sales and live shows are struggling all over the place. I, for one, and I suspect a whole lot of other people, can't afford that kind of cash for one concert. I'd rather pay $50 for all that stuff to go see a local band, or SEVERAL local bands.
