ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is maintaining big leads over potential Republican re-election opponents but would not fare as well among New York voters if she were to face former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in a 2008 presidential race, pollsters reported Monday.

The poll, by Siena College's Research Institute, found the Republican Giuliani leading the former first lady 48 percent to 42 percent among registered voters asked about a hypothetical 2008 presidential matchup. The poll has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

In another possible 2008 matchup, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona was favored by 46 percent of New York voters, compared to 42 percent for Democrat Clinton.

Other recent New York polls have found similar results.

that isn't a nationwide poll that is just NY. And Rudy and McCain both beat her by 4-6 points in a state that has gone Democratic by up to 2 million votes in the past four presidential elections. I sure wouldn't feel confident about Sen. Clinton's abilities to win nationally if she isn't even leading in her homestate which is considered one of the most blue of the blue.

Ghouliani and McCain's leads are 2-3 points when taking into consideration the margin of error in the polls.

Rudy has also been out of politics for a while and people's memories tend to dim, particularly about the negative things, after a few years. A robust campaign has a way of reminding people about those negative things. I think being only 4-6 points down to Rudy at this point is actually a pretty good showing for HRC. Don't forget NY has a Republican governor. NY will elect moderate Republicans. When they find out the "immoderate" things about Rudy and McCain, the numbers will change.

4. Seems like a poll for the biggest losers.

I would not support any of these candidates in any election. But then I want someone with a voting record and agenda like Senator Russ Feingold. This man has balls and law on his side and in his record.

For those that care, I am not a Jew voting for a Liberal agenda. I am a secular humanist (aka a person) that votes for change and redirection. (Boy, do we need it or what?)

Russ Feingold and John Convers are my heroes for our Constitution. (Not so much with the Hillary and Rudy antics.)

12. We need to nominate somebody who can appeal to Independents

and hold Democrats. I know a lot of people here don't think that Giuliani will be nominated but he is leading most GOP polls and most people know he is a social moderate. He has that damn 9/11 aura behind him, despite doing nothing since. The other front runner is McCain who is equally dangerous in winning independent voters and some democrats. When you look at the GOP field you have the two giants--in that they are the media favorites who will be driving day and night for them--Rudy and McCain and then you have the midgits: Frist, Allen, Gingrich and Romney. I don't think any of those guys can win nationally--but I don't think they have what it takes to win the GOP nomination in '08 either. If I had to guess I would say it will be either McCain or Giuliani and if it is, don't fool yourself they won't be easy to beat and we better nominate somebody who can compete with them--and given her very heavy negatives that person is not Hillary Clinton.

And, oh yeah. The man loves to dress in drag and he lived with a gay couple (one of whom he calls "Mom") when 9/11 happened. "Mom" fixed him dinner when he came home from his long day of leadership in crisis. And he's pro-choice.

If the right-wingers reject progressives over gay rights and abortion rights, and then vote for Rudy -- well, then I won't even know what to say.
