NYT: Lieberman and Lamont Battle to the Wire
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 11:02 PM by returnable
The money quote from tomorrow's New York Times

More than in recent days, the senator came across as both contrite and self-satisfied yesterday. He lamented that he had not “clarified” his criticism of the war and the White House earlier, but he also argued that Republicans were “salivating” over the possibility that Democrats would pick an antiwar liberal instead of Mr. Lieberman.

“They are anxious to say the left wing is taking over, the antisecurity wing,” Mr. Lieberman said of Republicans.

10. I usually stick by one thing: if the BBC says it it's usually true.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5255452.stm

"Top Democrat battles voter anger."

quote: "The Iraq war could claim its biggest US political casualty so far as Democrats in Connecticut choose a candidate to run in November's mid-term elections.

Senator Joe Lieberman, who stood for vice-president in 2000, faces an uphill battle to win the Senate nomination over anti-war newcomer Ned Lamont."

Whilst they're not committing to anything, Auntie is at least saying it's a tough fight.

Mark.

11. *THIS* is why Lieberman must go ...!!!
"... the left wing is taking over, the antisecurity wing"

Who the fu** says the left wing is "anti-security" other than Right Wing extremists? This sort of talk from Democrats must NOT BE ACCEPTED.

There is a HUGE difference between being trigger happy (like Bush, Lieberman, et al) and intelligently cautious (like Gore, Dean, etc) The Iraq war has decreased our security, and those who supported it -- and Bush's "stay the course" policy -- are truly "anti-security."
