Senator predicts Lieberman would abandon run if he loses primary

WASHINGTON -- A Democratic senator said Friday that if Sen. Joe Lieberman loses his primary Tuesday by a significant margin, he expects the Connecticut lawmaker to abandon plans to run as an independent.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, who just days ago campaigned with Lieberman, said a decisive win by anti-war challenger Ned Lamont would probably drive Lieberman off the ballot in the November general election.

...

"I frankly believe that if there is a significant margin of victory, if Mr. Lamont wins, I find it hard to believe that Joe Lieberman would challenge that, but it's his decision. I am going to support the Democratic candidate," Lautenberg said in an interview with National Public Radio.

4. With the last week's events
There is no way Joe runs as an independent.

He now knows that he has screwed up badly. He knows that Congressional Democrats will be supporting Lamont. He knows that the only substantive support he'll have is from Republicans in a very blue state. He knows that many Republicans will be voting for the candidate with an "R" next to his name. He knows his support from CT Democrats is low and still waning.

Plus, last night's Lieber-thug attack on Lamont in Meriden, CT is going to drive even more Democrats from his fold.

He clearly sees that he's going to not only lose the primary, but that he would also lose the general election as an independent.

Joe is quietly making plans to return to private life and will graciously concede the election to Ned Lamont next week. If he doesn't, he is truly delusional.

5. I'm sensing that too.
I think Joe is bewildered and ready to pack it in.

9. He can't stand that so many people would hate him
if he ran as an indie. Lieberman strikes me as one of those types who has to be loved by everyone or else his narcissistic personality suffers.

6. Dominoes are falling throughout the Democratic Party!
As the entrenched DC Party Elites see the support for Lamont, they suddenly find their Liberal spines.
Even Hillary put on an anti-War display for the cameras yesterday.

7. Methinks this is exactly what Bill Clinton was trying to tell Joe
when he visited Connecticut.
He may have advised Joe to abandon a run as an Independent if he lost the primary, and "take one for the team".

13. Yeah, Hillary will make him ...
Ambassador to Israel.

Do we actually have an ambassador to Israel, or does Israel just send our President an email each week telling him what to do and say?
