GOP Chair Says Democrats Weak on Terror
Republican Party chairman says Democrats are willing to surrender tools in fighting terrorism

(AP) The head of the Republican Party accused Democrats of being willing to surrender the tools necessary to combat terrorism as the GOP tries to capitalize on its national security advantage in a tough election year.

Faced with President Bush's low approval ratings and diminishing support for the Iraq war, the Republican strategy is to make the war on terrorism a central campaign issue and argue that Democrats hold a pre-Sept. 11 view of the world.

Ken Mehlman, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, stressed that argument in a speech Friday at the organization's two-day summer meeting, similar to points made by White House adviser Karl Rove in January.

"America faces a critical question," Mehlman said in his prepared text. "Will we elect leaders who recognize we're at war and want to use every tool to win it, or politicians who would surrender important tools we need to win?"

8. And THAT is the honest truth. Terrorism is a big problem now BECAUSE
of the Republicans and their failed foreign policies. Another six years of Republican "leadership" :eyes: will have the entire world at war with each other, and death and destruction will be as prominent on America's streets as it is in Iraq and Lebanon now.

Oh, yeah, we want to keep those "tough on terror" Republicans in office.

By the way, need I point out that 9/11 happened while the Republicans were "protecting" us?

Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 12:25 PM by bluerum
A: His mouth is moving.

But you knew that.

The republicans seem to hold a "pre-Iraq war debacle" world view. They fail to notice (or point out) that their policies on terror and national security have not improved anything for anyone except a few fat rich white people.

edit: added "on terror and national security"

Step 1 in the Dems war on terror: haul shrub and da boyz (rummycakes, abazaid, ashKroft, Dickface) off in chains.
Step 2 in the Dems war on terror: beat shrub and da boyz with sticks on the washington mall.

That will nip this "weak on terror" crap right in the bud.

Which means that it will resonate with a significant segment of our inattentive populace. We need a counter, and it can be as bogus and meaningless as the original, but it needs to get out there.

Suggestions? The more bone simple, the better.

28. Aside from the embarrassing fact that 9-11 happened under the GOP,
What has happened since Sept. 12th under the GOP's really fine WOT?

Let's see, we attacked Afghanistan because Tony the Poodle was shown George the Failure's "evidence" that 9-11 was an Afghan job. Gonna get Osama Dead or Alive or Forgotten. Noooo, let's go get Saddam because, really, - ain't lying to ya - he's got nuclear weapons, and it'll go sooo well and the oil will pay for it and democracy will blossom and freedom etc, etc, blah, blah.... no wait, it's really Iran, yeah that's it. Pay not attention to the debt and trust us, if we just bully the world enough and kill enough people, they'll all agree to let us rule! Yeah! NOW THAT'S A PLAN. THAT THERE'S SOME LEADERSHIP.

Wonder when Merca will notice that fascism is not a winning plan, and that the opposition to the war wasn't just lucky in their assessment. Those who opposed the war held more of a grasp of reality than the right.

30. Based on what evidence?
Did Mehlman forget that HIS party has controlled the entire government for almost six years thus making all the decisions?

1)Under the GOP the Dept. of Homeland Security (chills just writing the name) is an utter failure that sucks money from the treasury,
2)Iraq is almost a failed state which breeds terrorism,
3)Afghanistan - which has been recentrly described as near "anarchy" - was unfinished and now ready to fall back into the hands of the people Bush takes credit for defeating,
4)The Chimperor's democracy-spreading free for all has put Hamas and Hezzballah into power democratically,
5)Somalia is breeding more anti-US terrorists because Bush's efforts failed there,
6)We've cozied up to Pakistan which is run by a military dictator and has a huge level of hatred for the US, AND is hiding Osama Bin Laden
7)Korea is a rogue nation, and
8)our reputation as a free and fair country is a joke among other nations. Oh, and
9)we have Bush wanting to put our ports into the hands of countries that harbor terrorists!

Frankly, that's a pretty shitty record Ken. I wouldn't point fingers saying things like the Democrats AREN'T for spying on Americans or they don't want the US to torture suspected terrorists which is what he implies when he whines about the opposition party opposing the president on fundamental Constitutional issues.

Total wanker.

32. "national security advantage" ???
The only reason the Rethugs are perceived as being better on national security is because you freaking idiots (i.e. the "media") keep propagating the nonsense -- despite reality continually bitch-slapping you across the face with bodies of evidence (ghoulish pun intended) to the contrary.

33. republicans FAILED to protect us against the controlled demolitions of 911
and FAILED to prepare an exit strategy or supply enough troops to win in Iraq and FAILED to protect the consitution and FAILED to protect the US against invasion of privacy by the NSA and FAILED to uphold the most simple and decent rules of Congress and FAILED a thousand other ways during the bush administration. the thugs are FAILERS. that's all they can do. now they're destroying the economy, and for them to claim that they have been protecting us against terror is akin to saying that a fly on a horse has kept it from bucking and rearing. it's dumb luck, and they should watch their mouths or they may end up eating their words with all the taunting they're doing.
