Michael Moore fest ignores plea to pull film
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Ignoring a request to remove the documentary "Jesus Camp" from its lineup, Michael Moore's Traverse City (Mich.) Film Festival plans two screenings of the film, one Friday and one Saturday.

The documentary, directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, looks at a summer camp for born-again Christian children, and has won top jury awards at this year's Tribeca Film Festival and AFI SilverDocs Film Festival.

After Magnolia Films acquired North American distribution rights last week, the company asked festival organizers to drop the film because it was concerned that any association with the polarizing director of "Fahrenheit 9/11" could damage its prospects in conservative circles.

"The reality of the world we live in today is that if Michael Moore endorses it, tens of millions will automatically reject it," said Magnolia Films president Eamonn Bowles.

2. I guess it's not about conservative dollars...
which makes me wonder what it *is* about.

5. Bizarre?!
Why would this so-called film President even think that the main market for this film would be conservative film audiences? Why would he think that 'conservatives' predisposed to watch this type of documentary would give a rat's ass what Moore thinks?

It's ultimately destined for cable and library DVD racks anyway. If Magnolia can ASSOCIATE the movie with Moore, then it might just have a life beyond 'direct to DVD' and a long forgotten Academy award nomination?

Magnolia might make some money, no?

7. Yup, the complaint is just a PR ploy
without it, the film would come and go with very little notice.

9. Why would a company buy a film and then ask for it to be censored? Did
the company buy the film for that purpose? Like AAR Phoenix was purchase to shut it up, but then it rose from the ashes again.

If I purchased a film, I would like it seen by as many people as I could get it to.

The RW has many ways to undermine free speech.

11. And I'm pretty sure that those "millions" who would reject
a film on such a basis, probably don't really go see very many documentaries at the theaters.

12. " Conservatives" should just get over it,
More republican scare tactics...always want it both ways. They have their swift boat operatives out there lying on War Veterans, the heroes of this country; but those so-called Christians are not about to make those jackasses stop. They hate Michael Moore for telling the truth.
