Blair delays holiday to work on Lebanon deal

London - British Prime Minister Tony Blair delayed his holiday on Friday to work on a UN Security Council resolution for Lebanon, his office said.

Blair had faced criticism from the media and members of his Labour Party for planning his holiday as fighting rages between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah militants.

"Basically he's delayed to try and do further work to try and get this UN deal together. And he thinks the next few days will be critical," a spokesperson said, adding he expected Blair to postpone his departure by several days.

He said the prime minister could keep contact with other world leaders while abroad, but did not want to be out of touch while in transit for even a few hours at such a critical moment.

3. I'm impressed. Can you imagine Bush delaying one of his may vacations to
work on ANYTHING. Of course, the MSM would say he was on a "working vacation" - which interpreted means he is working clearing brush, or working riding his bicycle, or working playing video games.

4. Bush is in contact, don't you know?
The ME is going up in flames and el presidente is at the ranch. That just can't look good to anyone concerned over this crisis. Of course Blair faced criticism over his vacation plans....we dare not do that....I haven't heard anyone say * should stay in D.C. Well, maybe it's better; he'd just screw it up or do something embarrassing anyway.

7. Yesterday, * said
that it's amazing what you can do with phones and faxes. I think he was referring to the pretty lights and jingly noises they make. Plus, he's seen Uncle DickHead doing stuff with them, so they must be pretty serious.

5. Blair has no influence, but wants to look like he does
while Bush has influence, but doesn't give a shit. What this means is that Blair doesn't trust his cabinet anymore - if they're in London, and he isn't, they might say something against the US line: Blair admits to cabinet splits over his support for Bush on Israel

8. Huh?
I can't work out what you're talking about. All I can think of is that you have some specialist meaning for 'holiday'. Remember it means 'vacation' in Britain.

9. Well I suppose I'll have to wish him well then
Although I'm ever the pessimist and whilst I hope that we can at least get a ceasefire I'm not going to hold out too much hope that a ceasefire will actually happen regardless of what goes on in 10 Downing Street.
