Iran's reformists redirect their anger toward US and Israel
By Anne Barnard, Boston Globe August 4, 2006

TEHRAN -- The war in Lebanon is stoking anger against the United States across the Middle East and the Muslim world, even among those the United States views as allies or potential allies, from Iranians who are critical of their government to Iraqi leaders who rely on US support.

Here in the Iranian capital, opponents of the ruling Islamist clerics have been careful to distinguish their position on the war from that of Iran's government. They have refrained from calls for Israel's destruction, and some have suggested that the Lebanese militia Hezbollah harmed Iran's interests by attacking Israel in the cross-border raid that sparked the current fighting.

....

Some say the new war has strengthened hard-liners in Iran and across the region at the expense of democracy advocates and discredited the US call for a ``new Middle East" in which American influence would bring peace and democracy. (emphasis added)

bush's plan to transform the middle east is working- in the opposite direction he & neocon group would like, turning potential allies within muslim countries against the US.

3. Bushco wrote off the reformist efforts that had been gaining momentum
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 10:57 AM by Dover
from the get-go when they announced Iran was part of an "Axis of Evil". They clearly had decided that regime change from within was not going to be their tactic and had no intention of building upon the reformist movement there. So I'm sure they are indifferent to the growing resentment toward the U.S. by Iranian reformers.

They don't want reform, they want to prevent Iran from becoming the powerhouse of the Middle East due to their oil, pipelines to Asia, their bourse, their partnership with Russia, China, and other governments that are currently nationalizing their resources (like Venezuela), their geostrategic location, etc. And though, as a growing power they will require greater security, the U.S. will never allow them to have nuclear capacity....period.

4. That's not the opposite reaction Bush wants
It's exactly what he and the Neo-Cons desired and planned for the past 10 years or so. During the Clinton years and still when Bush toook office, the reformists in Iran had gained much ground and improved relations with the US over that time. Bush and the PNAC cabal came into power and alsmot immediately began doing everything they could to undermine the Reformists and strengthen the ayatollahs. That's the only way the PNACers can "justify" the almsot complete takeover of the ME by the US- and of course in the process, the confiscation of the region's resources. It's all going according to plan, folks.

6. It's as plain as the nose on my face
I'm shocked as well. And not to start a flame war in this thread, as god knows there are more than enough of them already, but I must say that I am also shocked at how many people can't see that the latest Israel-Lebanon fiasco is part of The Plan as well.

8. Re: all going according to plan
Thank you for that concise and valuable insight about creating enemies for access to and/or control over their territory. The PNAC genre's Iran package might involve applying the Iraq 'model' for regime change - first bomb heavily, cover, then let simmer for 12 years. Bake.

These days, even Rumsy's goffers must be wondering why patting themselves on the backs about turning peaceful middle east settings into civil war zones now seems like they're faking it, or if the sum total carnage these elitists have created (if not fostered) while spending themsselves silly with their (Pearl-Harbor-type) morally bankrupt wars doesn't leave all that many others than these nasty few they work for with much to cheer about.

It's like a plot form a James Bond movie, only...

10. And just like (actually, it's a lot worst than) Enron execs abused...
their employees, shareholders, and customers, the neoCON execs continue to abuse the troops (employees used for cannon fodder), shareholders (taxpayers used to borrow billions), and customers (as they had to double their budget for gaz) using fabrications (never ending lies).

neoCONs = Police everywhere... Justice nowhere. :puke:

7. Bush and Olmert are the best friends the Islamic radicals ever had
The BBC this morning was reporting on the Lebanese Christians and their anger at Israel for bombing their sectors, and the US for enabling Israeli aggression against Lebanon.

They don't see this as a war between Israel and Hezbollah, but as a war against all Lebanese.
