LAT: Poll: Majority Disapproves of Bush's Environmental Policies (56%)

More Americans than ever disapprove of President Bush's handling of the environment, according to a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll, which also found that spiraling fuel costs are altering household spending habits.

A majority, 56 percent, of those questioned in a national poll said the Bush administration is doing too little to protect the environment. The negative rating was up sharply from a Times survey taken in 2001 in which 41 percent said he wasn't doing enough.

Lisa Brutvan, a 42-year-old real estate consultant from Atlanta who is not registered with any political party, said she twice voted for Bush because of his stance on terrorism.

"I knew in making that decision that I was making a choice against the environment. I figured that for eight years we could survive it," she said in an interview. "But I think it's reaching a little bit more of a critical mass.

"At some point you've just got to look at things realistically and realize we're not leaving much of a legacy for our grandchildren if we don't address these issues," she said, in particular faulting his position on global warming.

1. Yes, it's time we look at environmental legacy
Not the profits of W's big oil men. How anyone could vote against the environment is beyond me.

But then, I guess Americans only pay attention to environmental stories if Paris Hilton is in a bikini and covered with gleaming, clingy, glistening, slick crude oil from a grounded tanker.

4. Thank you :)
My thoughts exactly..

:hi: btw..I have noticed that you are an enviro-head like myself...:)

I know most liberals and progressives support more sound environmental policies but even today its the primary issue only for a few. Which is fine...I mean every one has their priorities.

But always good to meet a fellow enviro :toast:!

5. It was a NATIONAL poll, not an LA poll.

11. 44% demand more hurricanes, destruction of forests, oils spills
and killer heat waves-and guess what? The 44% will get them. Big Time.
The only thing that is reassuring is that global warming will hurt rethugs as much as us. Mother Nature is bipartisan.
