Toronto's sewage sludge may go into lake (Lake Ontario)
TORONTO - A Michigan landfill's decision to no longer accept sewage sludge could force Toronto to dump tonnes of human waste into Lake Ontario, a court heard yesterday.

City lawyers appeared in Ontario Superior Court yesterday seeking an injunction to compel Republic Services to continue processing Toronto's sludge for the next 90 days. The company stopped handling the treated human waste at Carleton Farms, a Detroit-area landfill, on Aug. 1

2. Some US cities truck it to remote desert areas.
I know that some sludge in the US has been dumped in remote and dry desert areas. It is not the best solution but it would be far better than dumping it in the lake!

4. So this will be two provincial capitals...
that dump untreated raw sewage into coeans and lakes. It would have been three, but St. John's announced it was building a treatment facility for it's raw sewage -- so doubleplus good for a country that as one of the worst environmental records in the west, but nonetheless, loves the little canapes and picture taking at goes on at the various international shindigs celebrating the environment.
