AP: Contractor claims Big Dig warning a fake
Contractor claims Big Dig warning a fake

August 2, 2006

BOSTON --A memo written by a Big Dig safety officer warning superiors at his
construction company that parts of a tunnel ceiling could collapse appears
to be a fake, the company said Wednesday.

The memo is dated May 17, 1999, and bears the signature of John J. Keaveney.
It raised several concerns about the safety of the bolt-and-epoxy ceiling design
in the Interstate 90 connector tunnel where a woman was killed July 10 when
ceiling panels fell on her car.

The bolt-and-epoxy system has been the focus of the investigation into the
collapse in the $14.6 billion highway project.

The memo was mailed to The Boston Globe late last month without Keaveney's
knowledge, but he later verified to the newspaper that he wrote it while working
for Modern Continental Construction Co.

2. What effect does claiming fake have....?
We have seen this time and time again from Bush and GOP they simply baldface lie right to everyone. So when you lie you have more to gain by the immediate media effects of the lie rather than the actual repercussion of the disclosure of the lie months later.

So this company can claim it to be a "fake" it will be in all the papers and TV and by the time they find out the truth...the benfits of the lie will already have been reaped. Perfectly sound defensive strategy...there is no penalty for lying to the media and to the American people so it seems.

Next it will be character assasination of the whistle blower as he is forced to respond. Supervisors will claim he was "unstable" and was considered a "loner" then a "disgruntled employee" and finally a law suit will be filed and gag order issued by our "activist" judges upon the man. His credibility will be attack and made up dirt spread around by the like of Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the media "Liar Channel".

Big Dig safety officer admits he sent memo to newspaper

August 4, 2006

BOSTON --A former safety official for a Big Dig contractor now says he sent
The Boston Globe a memo warning of problems in a tunnel where a woman was killed
last month in a ceiling collapse, the newspaper reported Friday.

John J. Keaveney had previously denied he was the sender. He still insists the memo,
dated 1999 and purportedly sent to one of his supervisors, is genuine. His former
employer, Modern Continental Construction Co. said on Wednesday the memo is a fake.

Keaveney told the Globe in an interview Thursday night he had worried about the
repercussions to his job and his family if he acknowledged he sent it.

The Globe's editor, Martin Baron, said in a statement the admission raises serious
questions about Keaveney's credibility.
