Lieberman Plans for Loss Next Week
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2006/08/02/lieberman_plans_for_loss_next_week.html

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) will shake up his campaign staff if he loses Tuesday’s Democratic primary to challenger Ned Lamont. Lieberman supporters have watched with growing dismay since the spring as the three term senator’s campaign has gone from oblivious to defensive. They expect to reap a bitter harvest in 6 days.

Expect Lieberman to can anyone who was associated with 2004 Kerry campaign and replace them with a team of pungent veterans who will take the fight to Lamont. As Lieberman tours the broiling state, you can almost hear the gloves coming off in preparation for a fight to the finish in November.

Lieberman will face pressure to abandon his independent run if he gets clocked on August 8th. But on August 9th he will be able to capture the spotlight by filing his petitions for his independent run.

Support from Republicans for Lieberman will continue now that embattled GOP contender Alan Schlesinger (a/k/a Alan Gold) has finally filed his most recent finance report. It provides another dismal look at Schlesinger’s effort to fight above his weight in the contest. To date, Schlesinger has raised a paltry $63,581.00 from contributors and has lent his campaign $50,000.00. The amount raised in contributions is less than some vigorous State Senate races.

Renewed Republican muttering about Schlesinger’s doomed campaign to follow as they eye the spot for Lieberman.

It's on, folks.

2. Lamont Supporters can claim they were CORRECT ..
about Joe Leiberman all along.
He's a Bush Supporter and his aliance with BushCo policies and his bitter pissypants approach to this election when he loses will tell all.

Go Away Joe.

in polls.

Still, his futile attempt to keep his seat will harm Democrats all around the country by acting as a distraction and a syphon for Democratic resources. Maybe that is why he wants to run.

LIEberman makes me despise the DLC even more.

33. Actually, I'm wondering if Lieberman running as an faux Republican ...
... against Lamont might not be a very good thing nationally.

The more Lamont's message is broadcast across the country, the better. Lamont's campaign could be used to communicate the broader progressive platform, and to emphasize Lamont as a "new" kind of Democrat -- and showing that Democrats are acting to reform their party from within, returning to a party of, by and FOR the people.

8. That campaign must be seeing some really bad internal polling numbers...
...since the last public poll I recall had Lieberman with a comfortable lead, even among "Democrats only."

10. Last 2 public polls have Lieberman losing
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 07:05 PM by Finnfan
either 51-47 or 51-41, depending on the poll. One poll, Rasmussen, even has him in danger in a 3-way general, with Lamont 40%, Lieberman 40% and Schlesinger 18%.

Lamont (D) 40%
Lieberman (R) 40%
Schlesinger (I) 10%

15. Joeblivion.
If Lamont wins the primary by >5 percent or so, he will destroy Lieberman in the G.E.

Once the stink of loserdom has an official electoral stamp, he will only auger in faster.

If Lieberman loses by 10+ percentage points: He must withdraw (or actually not file) his independent bid or face utter Joeblivion.

16. I live in CT. For the last two months Joe has been running some
of the most vicious personal attack ads ever seen in the state and his campaign has been in meltdown. His internal polling has been horrible since the spring. The vote is Tuesday: unlike Joe: I will support the nominee of my party.

17. David Bender, on "The Rachel Maddow Show" Monday,
said that he believes Bill Clinton's strategy in campaigning for Lieberman is to be able to say on Wednesday "Look, Joe, we did everything we could for you. Now you have to take one for the team."

I hope he's right, although I agree that Joe will lose no matter what.

Is Lieberman hiring GOP political operatives? Why not just announce he is following Zell Miller to GOP?

The writer is just asserting this will happen, but doesn't even cite any sources in the Lieberman camp. What special knowledge does he have?

If a columnist for a newspaper comments about something that goes on in their backyard, we're supposed to automatically believe it?

31. So if somebody on FOX News says something,
I can be reasonably sure that it's true since it's only their jobs and credibility at stake?

George Will has a column in the Washington Post. Should we believe everything he says?

The article was speculative analysis, not news.
