Murtha wants an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon
Once again, Pennsylvania Democratic congressman breaks with Bush

Wednesday, August 02, 2006
By James O'Toole, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pennsylvania's Rep. John Murtha said yesterday that he favored an immediate cease-fire in the fighting in Lebanon.

His stand places the veteran Johnstown Democrat at odds with the Israeli government, and -- on yet another major Middle Eastern policy issue -- at odds with the Bush administration as well.

6. They will have a lot of help...
Sometimes I wonder if pro-Israeli activists would rather we were just blood libelist anti-Semites. It would seem to be much easier for them to cope with, as they see any criticism as such anyway.

16. With Jerome Corsi's history of anti-"raghead", (his racist slur word)
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 03:59 PM by chill_wind
anti-catholic, anti-gay bigoted and racist public comments? That would be supreme irony.

(...)

"Corsi, who received his PhD in political science from Harvard University in 1972 and is currently vice president of development and senior editor of U.S. Financial Marketing Group, has posted to the FreeRepublic.com website under the pseudonym "jrlc" since 2001. Among the smears he posted are:

On Kerry

"First let's undermine the US in Vietnam. Then we can go for gay marriage. When you get to be Pres. JFK-lite, there will be no end to how much of America we can destroy."

"Just don't let anybody put a tablet with the Ten Commandments in front of the school where that girl wants to wear a Muslim scarf - OH, No --- then the RATS would complain. Anti- Christian, Anti-American - just like their Presidential Candidate - Jean Francois Kerrie."

"After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judiasm (sic)? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?"

On Senator Clinton:

"HELL-ary loves the Arabs so much (kiss, kiss Mrs. Arab- RAT) - wonder how she would look in a Burkha?"

"Mullah Ali'Gore-ah is very proud of his new Bin Laden beard and he hopes others in the Democratic Party will follow his lead. Hell-ary is disappointed she cannot grow a beard, but her press secretary reminds us she can still enroll in flight school."

On Catholics and the Pope:

"Boy buggering in both Islam and Catholicism is okay with the Pope as long as it isn't reported by the liberal press."

"So this is what the last days of the Catholic Church are going to look like. Buggering boys undermines the moral base and the lawyers rip the gold off the Vatican altars. We may get one more Pope, when this senile one dies, but that's probably about it."

On Islam:

"Let's see exactly why it isn't the case that Islam is a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion? Where's the proof to the contrary?"

"Islam is like a virus - It affects the mind - maybe even better as an analogy - it is a cancer that destroys the body it infects."

"Islam is a peaceful religion as long as the women are beaten, the boys buggered, and the infidels killed."

"Think the liberal press will ever let out that these 2 were lovers - typical Islamic boy-buggering - older man, younger man - black Muslims? I doubt it. Not a pretty picture, but one certain to be hidden by PC media."
bullet

"RAGHEADS are Boy-Bumpers as clearly as they are Women- Haters - it all goes together."

more:

"Media Matters for America (MMFA) has documented a slew of inflammatory comments by Jerome R. Corsi, co-author of Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry. The other author is Swift Boat Veterans for Truth founder John E. O'Neill."

21. You've become a
one note jonny, endlessly whining about how so and so will now become an antisemite. Amusing to see you doing precisely what you claim the other side does.

9. So,
who represents the majority of Americans?

Here is what The Majority of Americans (Republican AND Democrat) want:
1. 65 percent say the government should guarantee health insurance for everyone -- even if it means raising taxes.

2. 86 percent favor raising the minimum wage (including 79 percent of selfdescribed "social conservatives").

3. 60 percent favor repealing either all of Bush's tax cuts or at least those cuts that went to the rich.

4. 66 percent would reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

5. 77 percent believe the country should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment.

6. 87 percent think big oil corporations are gouging consumers, and 80 percent (including 76 percent of Republicans) would support a windfall profits tax on the oil giants if the revenues went for more research on alternative fuels.

7. 69 percent agree that corporate offshoring of jobs is bad for the U.S. economy (78 percent of "disaffected" voters think this), and only 22% believe offshoring is good because "it keeps costs down."

But, they do have the voting machines, so what does it matter?

12. Who? not the current crop of politicians
I was just trying to say that Dem unity is being used as justification for continued slaughter. I felt it needed to be pointed out that, once again, the politicians are not representing their constituents.

14. I agree.
I wasn't trying to rain on the parade.
Murtha speaking out is a cause for joy and celebration, and I applaud him.

The fact that this (a Democrat Speaking Out) is a cause for joy and celebration causes me some despair.
Democrats Speaking Out should be common place. :(

15. Absolutely. It is all so frustrating. We've been sold down the river.
But, maybe, Murtha will give the others some backbone? I'm truly not holding my breath.

beginning to crack, and as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing.

18. I support Israel
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 04:20 PM by BayCityProgressive
but I wouldn't call it blind support. Many here will find any reason to excuse Hezbollah and Hamas but use anything to fault Israel. I can't help but think anti-semitism plays a part. Also, I love how any allegation of anti-semitism is just poo pooed away on this board but racism and homophobia are words constantly batted around. Although I am pro-Israel and believe Hezbollah needs to be stopped, I think Israel went about it the wrong way. Iran and Syria should have had sanctions on their nations if they refused to stop funding them, and Israel should have attacked targets in Southern Lebanon and done a prisoner trade. Also, international peacekeepers should have been brought in immediately, but I don't see anyone jumping to put their own troops in that mess.
