Olmert says victory will let Israel safely pull out of more of West Bank
(Israeli) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's declaration Wednesday that the war in Lebanon will create new momentum for further West Bank pullouts was met by a harsh response on the part of right-wing parliamentarians as well as members of the PM's own Kadima party.
...
Israel Our Home Chairman Avigdor Lieberman was also quick to condemn Olmert, saying that "Just like the disengagement brought Hamas to power and led to the massive firing of Qassams on the South and the abduction of our soldiers, so would the realignment plan lead to the massive firing of thousands of missiles on central Israel communities and Jerusalem."

...members of Olmert's own Kadima party raised an eyebrow over the prime minister's timing. Party members who declined to be identified said "this is not the time to talk about realignment. First we should examine the war's results, and only then decide on our diplomatic course."
...
Far-right activist Baruch Marzel also blasted the PM, charging that "it's about time Olmert stop thinking that he rules the world. The man doesn't learn from mistakes – realignment will lead to Qassam rockets on Kfar Saba and Netanya," Marzel said.

3. Israel will never have peace with its thuggish behavior.
There must be a comprehensive JUST PEACE with the Palestinians. That is the root of the problem. And I said a just peace, not some unilateral act by Israel that turns the West Bank and Gaza into open-air prisons.

I don't believe the Israeli leadership is capable of doing that, they only know how to kill.

6. Olmert is lying again--his lips are moving.
Olmert needs to implement UN 242. Only then will Israel get peace.

8. How will the invasion in Lebanon create new momentum for the WB pullouts?
He doesn't say that, he's just like Bush who wants a lasting peace, without describing what that peace is or how it will come about.
It's all in the language they use. I see the ynet article mostly covers the reactions, a Norwegian translation of an interview with Olmert just touches the topic.

"- I'll surprise you. I really believe that the outcome of what is happening now, and the creation of law and order, will create stability and fight the terror forces, so that I can create a new future for us and the Palestinians."

Quack-quack-quack ... *snort* - get a grip, Olmert! It doesn't even sound like the Palestinians are gonna be asked how they like your future plans before they're set in action.

He also adores Bush.
"- He (Bush) does what's most obvious. He fights the enemies of freedom, he fights the enemies of democracy and he fights against terror-supporters."
(From same source)

Olmert: I kill terrists
Bush: I kill terrists

Olmert called the prisoners taken in Lebanon 'Tasty fishes'.

I presume he means they're prisoners of some prominence in Hizbollah. What is it about language these days? To watch the language of the world leaders are like listening to a bunch of glue sniffers talking under a bridge. Or that would be an insult to the glue sniffers.

What is it about this glee when they catch, maim or kill somebody? Is it not a change in comparison to other politicians, especially before 911? I'm thinking of Bush and Blair as well as Olmert. Remember the framed picture of dead Zarquawi. Wassup?
The death altar? It's so indecent and sorry way of treating people, especially your enemy.

It didn't use to be like that.

By throwing something positive into the basket for the intnl. community; the withdrawal from the WB and a future two-state solution with separated societies.
Maybe he miscalculated the response of the rwingers at home, who now sees a way to diminish his power after giving him full support for anything he would in Lebanon.
I don't know what to think about this guy, but I do have some information about the Israeli-Norwegian relationship, pointing to a longer campaign (info-campaign) and a switch in the internal political arena of who 'talks' to Israel, and it's the fundie Christians who have taken over there. That does not point to a moderate leader in the other end, in Israel. Besides, a story just broke in Norway that Norwegian Fundies works in tracking down Russian Jews, and pay them to move to the West Bank.

"Norwegian Christians works to track down Jews all over the world, and make them move into the illegal settlements in the West Bank.
This year alone, they collected 40 million NOK (app. 5 mill. USD). The people who gives can get a tax redux of 12.000 NOK.

Israel's Norwegian troops are on the offensive, writes the Dagens Næringsliv (Daily Finance).

There are more than 30 organizations in Norway working with support for Israel. The biggest is the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (Ikaj), who has headquarters in Jerusalem.

Much of the money are collected in the small Christian communities at Sørlandet and Vestlandet, and despite the fact that about five million NOK of the collected money goes to the illegal setlements in the West Bank, up to 12.000 NOK are tax deductible. Several of the Israel-organizations, among them Ikaj, is on a list of accepted organizations for tax deduction by gifts to idealist organizations.

The Norwegian branch of Ikaj is the most sucessful of Ikaj's 80 departments all over the world in raising money, and the increase since last year is 17%.

It is mainly in the former Sovjet Union that Ikaj works to visit Jews and pay them to move to Israel. Also in Germany, where the Russian-Jewish community counts about 340.000, the Ikaj calls everyone with a Jewish-sounding name to implore them to go to Israel.

The Israel organizations are convinced that Israel is given to the Jews by God, and that the real Israel must cover all land «from the river of Egypt to Eufrat» in Iraq. They don't accept that the West Bank is occupied and that the occupation, the settlements and those parts of the Wall built on Palestinian territory, are in breach of international law, concluded by a long string of UN resolutions and the UN Court in Hague."
