Sharpton 'Disappointed' In Lieberman

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Activist Al Sharpton is backing the Democratic U.S. Senate candidacy of Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont.

At a breakfast with ministers in Stamford Wednesday morning, Sharpton said the Iraq war is the defining issue of our time and called Senator Joe Lieberman the "main cheerleader" for supporters.

Sharpton said Lieberman called him over the weekend to ask for his endorsement, but Sharpton told him he disagrees with him on too many issues.

Jesse Jackson and Sharpton are both supposed to be campaigning for Lamont in Bridgeport and in New Haven.

2. When do you suppose the media mavens will start
referring to Lamont as "candidate" rather than "businessman" or "wealthy businessman?"

I would even accept their referring to Leberman as "wealthy Bush bootlicker."

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 11:29 AM by LoZoccolo
...like he did to Dean, implying racism was responsible for him not having a person of color in his cabinet of six (which were junky low-paying jobs to begin with because the state is so small) in a state that is 98% white, after he did make an offer to one which was declined!

Wait till it happens to you!

12. When has Sharpton spouted anything remotely resembling GOP lies ...
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 12:39 PM by downstairsparts
as opposed to say Lieberman?

Show me one, just one, instance of Sharpton towing the GOP line, and then I might be able to say Roger Stone's 10 dollar contribution to the Sharpton campaign was money well spent.

13. He doesn't have to tow the GOP line to do damage to the Democrats.
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 12:47 PM by LoZoccolo
He was paid to attack Dean from the "left". I say "left" in quotes because the kind of clownery displayed by Sharpton during the primary debates really doesn't have a place on the political spectrum and is simply a charicature of the left (one that matches the GOP's charicature of the left quite nicely, I might add).

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 03:00 PM by downstairsparts
Everybody knew this, even on DU, even Dean.

What is a "charicature"? Sounds like something straight out of Carravaggio, the painter.

22. He can't win a debate where he engaged in race-baiting.
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 04:10 PM by LoZoccolo
If you think it's justified to rake someone over the coals for having no African-American cabinet members out of six people in a state that's 97 or 98 percent white after he made an offer to one who declined because the position isn't terribly rewarding, and that you can win a debate while doing that in the middle of it, while being fed talking points by a GOP dirty tricks operative (Did you read the article? You might want to read the article.) then this will be a very short discussion.

16. So why did Lieberman call him?
"Sharpton said Lieberman called him over the weekend to ask for his endorsement."

Why would Lieberman want the endorsement of a "race-baiting demagogue awash in GOP cash"?

Maybe Lieberman was just fondly recalling the Lieberman/Sharpton alliance in Iowa in 2004.
Their dirty tricks did succeed in giving Dean some bad press...
