Cannabis 'might harm conception'
Cannabis use around the time of conception may prevent women getting pregnant, a study of mice suggests.

University of Nashville researchers found an ingredient in the drug binds to receptors present in early embryos.

The ingredient prevents transport and implantation of embryos in the womb by interfering with the delicate system.

Smoking cannabis may lead to miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies, they warn in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, are present in the brain.

When the psychoactive ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) binds to those receptors it kick-starts a chain of biological events which leads to the "high" produced by smoking cannabis.

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 03:21 AM by DeSwiss
There is no University of Nashville in Nashville. They just mixed it up. The article says further:

"Professor Sudhansu Dey and colleagues from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, found that the production and breakdown of amandamide is carefully controlled and too much or too little can prevent normal embryo development, transport into the womb and implantation."

But I didn't know Vandy was doing doobie experiments either. Got to go over there later to see if I can help......

It seems when people get stoned, they are completely content, and if
contentment were normal, then the entire world that is supposed to
make you content, might seem ephemoral.

So then it is illegal to be content, satisfied and complete without
the need to spend money or do anything neoliberal at all.

18. No it ISN'T, You're kidding, right
If not then you have bought into the government propaganda... Just like this research, I think it was designed solely for the purpose to discourage people from partaking in the herb. Just like when I was growing up the stories were men having low sperm count, men growing tits, insanity, etc. They used whatever they could to frighten us into not using.

I know several women/girls who became pregnant while they were using, myself included. But that was long, long ago.....

This link should enlighten you on the topic of government propaganda!

http://www.cannabis.com/untoldstory/hemp_6.shtml

From the link:

Myth: Marijuana is a gateway drug--it leads to harder drugs.

Fact: The U.S. government's own statistics show that over 75 percent of all Americans who use marijuana never use harder drugs. The gateway-drug theory is derived by using blatantly-flawed logic. Using such blatantly-flawed logic, alcohol should be considered the gateway drug because most cocaine and heroin addicts began their drug use with beer or wine--not marijuana.

Also while we're on the subject the harder drugs are easier to get and don't cost as much. With the "Drug War" the price of Cannabis skyrocketed making it more cost effective to use the harder drugs that ARE more dangerous, because you don't know what the hell you might be ingesting. At least with Cannabis you pretty much know that it is less likely to contain rat poison or other toxic substances. A long time ago I knew someone who was dealing crystal meth and he told me stories about how they would cut it with rat poison. Yuck....

19. MIlk is a gateway to marijuana.
Music, especially that negro-jazz-blues derived music involving guitars played like giant penises and a throbbing pulsating beat, is the historical gateway to marijuana. Marijuana is in fact a communist plot. Since the demise of communism as a convenient bogeyman, marijuana is in fact an islamic plot to corrupt our youth and steal them away from their diligent pursuit of bitches and whores in grand theft auto. The fact that hemp cultivation has been part of European culture since we had a culture is nothing you should think about. You need a drink.

And so, in your esteemed clinical estimation, juswt how long does it take to pass through the gateway? How deep is that tunnel? Does it go from one side of the planet to the other?

I only ask because it's been about sixteen years since I stepped through the doorway to the 'land of addiction' and I want to know when I'll get to the "Meth/Wild Turkey Annex" just outside the exit...

36. These Studies May Do to Drug Laws What MP3s Did to the Music Biz
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 12:27 PM by Crisco
mp3 sharing, or more specifically, the labels' reactions to it, showed the masses of music lovers that the industry putting it out saw it as nothing more than a product of their control. The reaction has been deadly for the industry.

That studies are finding some very interesting properties in MJ that - surprise! - don't seem to work as well when the drug is synthesized for various patents, stands to shed a similar light on how corporations and the government are unjustifiably keeping the drug illegal.

ETA: yeah I know you're sarcastic. Just seemed like a good time to jump in.

"Indiscriminate use of NSAIDs can cause a lot of problems during pregnancy."

They then said something similar only it was that a man's sperm were affected by smoking pot.

OR maybe it was from the toxins the government sprayed on marijuana crops during raids.

What was that toxin called again???
Geez it was serious stuff and I'm not sure why they stopped doing it.
Maybe protestors actually had something to say about the way of our government in those days.
