Blair warns Syria and Iran
Blair warns Syria and Iran

LOS ANGELES - Delivering a major international policy address in California, British Prime Minister Tony Blair issued a stern warning Tuesday that Syria and Iran will face serious consequences if they continue working to destabilize the Middle East.

Without saying the two nations could face military action, Blair said: "We need to make it clear to Syria and Iran that there is a choice: come into the international community and play by the same rules as the rest of us - or be confronted.

"Their support of terrorism, their deliberate export of instability, their desire to see wrecked the democratic prospect in Iraq is utterly unjustifiable, dangerous and wrong," the prime minister said in a speech to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. "If they keep raising the stakes, they will find they have miscalculated."

Meanwhile, Blair heaped blame on Iran- and Syria-backed Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon and other Islamic extremists, saying their incursions into Israel were part of a calculated campaign to provoke a massive Israeli military response. The idea, Blair said, was to leave the world with images of gutted Lebanese cities to stir outrage - thus drowning out moderate Muslim voices and exploiting the tragedy to spread an "arc of extremism" across the Middle East.

Why is it, when I think of two nations that "don't play by the same rules as the rest of us" and "export instability," I'm not thinking of Syria and Iran?

They do not appear to be the aggressors in the region. Tony is such a hypocrite.

6. All Are Mad
Just go to 36:37 of this article. Seems like plain and simple hate propaganda to me.

http://www.democracynow.org/index.pl?issue=20060731

PRIME MINISTER TONY BLAIR: Look, we’ve had a problem even in our own Muslim communities in Europe, who will half-buy into some of the propaganda that’s pushing it: the purpose of America is to suppress Islam; you know, Britain is joined with America in the suppression of Islam. And one of the things we’ve got to stop doing is stop apologizing for our own positions. You know, Muslims in America, as far as I’m aware, are free to worship. Muslims in Britain are free to worship. We are plural societies.

It’s nonsense. The propaganda is nonsense, and we’re not going to defeat this ideology until we in the West go out with sufficient confidence in our own position and say this is wrong. It’s not just wrong in its methods, it’s wrong in its ideas, it’s wrong in its ideology. It’s wrong in every single wretched reactionary thing about it. And it will be a long struggle, I’m afraid. But there’s no alternative but to stay the course with it. And we will.

7. Blair's got his bloody nerve
Telling other countries to "play by the rules", and not "destabilize the middle east". Hey Blair - ever heard of Iraq? That's the place where you "broke all the rules" and the country you "destabilized". It's in the middle east.

9. Play by the same rules?
We bully, intimidate, attack, blockade, strangle, overrun, kill and destabilize before the morning coffee break. These aren't just hobbies or occasional events, these are what we do as normal business.

This isn't hypocrisy, it's hypercrisy.

12. Probably for the same reason I'm not
You say "Why is it, when I think of two nations that "don't play by the same rules as the rest of us" and "export instability," I'm not thinking of Syria and Iran?" If those words sound like hypocrisy to us, imagine how they must react in the Muslim world.

I never cease to be amazed when Bush or Blair make some of their outrageous statements, that they are not immediately struck by divine lightening. Look how well we've done "stabilizing" Iraq. :sarcasm:

Just get it over with you fucking Nazis.

The entire world knows that you won't be able function sexually or achieve arousal or even a decent bowell movement unless you murder every last man, woman and child in the Middle East.

You're going to do it anyway.

Shut the fuck up with your stupid talk and just circle jerk us to Armageddon.

I Give Up. You primates wouldn't know reason or diplomacy if it ripped your balls off and fed them too you, then watched you choke to death as you negotiated desperately for peace.

My hope is that someone will stop the both of you either metaphorically or physiacally with brutal, unyeilding, incomprehensible force.

You bastards don't even deserve the humane treatment of a fair trail at The Hague.

Hell is too good for you.

And to quote the words of Hanover Fist from Heavy Metal......

Well, maybe I'd better not.

But no two sub-humans deserve that fate more than you.

Fuck You both and this Hell On Earth You have created.

The world cannot be rid of you soon enough.

Even your very conception was for more time than this planet could ever bear.

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 06:20 AM by teryang
...countries like Syria and Iran, neither one of which it could defeat on the battlefield as a practical matter without US support. Incidentally, I don't believe the US could defeat Iran militarily if the latter receives logistical support from the major Asian powers.

Neither Syria nor Iran would even be *met* on the battlefield
without the direct political "support" of the US.

The British people don't want this shit any more than the US people
want BushCo. Sadly, we've all been shafted and so thousands of
innocents will continue to die for the eternal cause of greed.

Welcome to Hell.

16. Was this from the same speech yesterday?
In which Blair came out against the * policy of drop more bombs.

Los Angeles - Signaling a possible break with the hard-line policies of US President George W Bush, British premier Tony Blair on Tuesday called for a complete reappraisal of foreign policy in the Middle East.

Blair made the comments in what was billed as a major policy speech at the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles, in which he admitted that the West's policies in the Middle East had done little except strengthen 'an arc of extremism' stretching across the region.

Blair met with US President George W Bush on Friday, where the two men agreed to push for UN security troops in Lebanon. He has been in California since then.

Blair called for 'an alliance of moderation' to promote an alternative vision, but said that the only way to win minds in the region was to 'show we are even handed, fair and just in our application of those values to the world.'

24. One of the wonderful things about Blair
is that you can spin so much of what he ways in any matter you like, which I suppose is part of what it's all about, to try and convince as many people on all parts of the political spectrum that he's on their side. For a long time it worked a treat, which is why Labour have won 2 huge landslides under Blair but by now more and more people are either just being very cynical about it all or are simply spinning just as hard against Blair.
