Bush physical (results): Fit but heavier

Bush physical (results): Fit but heavier
WASHINGTON --President Bush says his annual physical shows him in fine shape -- though he's a little upset about those extra five pounds he's packed on.
...
Snow said the president's resting heart rate was 46, similar to the 47 at his exam last July and in the range of a well-trained athlete, and that his total cholesterol of 174 was his best ever. Below 200 is a desirable cholesterol level, and Bush's was 178 last year.
...
A December 2004 physical showed Bush, who is nearly 6 feet tall, had gained six pounds since the summer of 2003 -- a development he blamed on eating too many doughnuts during his re-election campaign. The gain prompted Bush, an avid mountain bike rider, to a renewed commitment to exercise and fitness. He was rewarded last July with a loss of eight pounds to weigh 191.6 pounds.

Then came this year's addition.
...
-----------

So, at about 197 lbs & 5' 11.5" (probably a high guess on the height), he has a BMI of 27.1, which places him smack dab in the middle of the OVERWEIGHT category, according to medical standards.

So how is he "in the range of a well-trained athlete"? I'm 5' 10.5", 195 lbs & pretty damn sure I'm overweight, with the gut to prove it :-)

2. Well, that phrase described his 46 heart rate, not his overall condition..
and, hell, I think that heart rates a lot better than mine.

It's actually kinda telling that he DOESN'T have a high heart rate. He's in the most high-stress job on the planet, and he seems to be not at all stressed. Makes one wonder how seriously he takes his job.

I'd rather hear this coming from his actual physician, not from a spokesman. You know how they spin everything else -- who knows what the REAL physical results were.

8. If he is 'taking antidepressants' ...
I mean REALLY taking antidepressants, not just using that excuse for his bizarro behavior because he's drunk off his ass...
A side effect of a lot of them IS weight gain...interferes with insulin uptake.
Of course, increased alcohol intake will do that to ya too when you don't have to make a choice between booze or groceries...
Jes' sayin'....

13. "Nearly six feet tall" my ass.
There's the spin again. Of course, 5'9", which is probably where he is, is closer to 6' than it is 5'.

I'll NEVER forget those televised debates with Senator Kerry, where to bring them up to about the same height on the screen chimpy's shot was about half podium and half little, little man.

24. in 2000, they were eager to say he was exactly 6' -- what's going on?
Edited on Tue Aug-01-06 07:14 PM by Lisa
During the campaign, and his first term, his PR flacks made a big deal of saying he was 6 feet tall, even though Bush himself had said that he wasn't (quote from the "Journeys with George" movie). His physicians seemed to back up the spin. There are umpteen newspaper profiles, web pages, etc. out there that have him as being 6'.

So what's happening? I think that Bush is a bit young to be losing height due to bone degeneration or spinal problems!

(I'm not picking on short people here ... I'm only 5'2" myself -- but I'm disturbed by the implications that even supposedly-neutral parties like his physicians, seem to be able to stretch facts. I wonder what else they are glossing over?)

16. "nearly 6 feet tall"???
HA! That's funny.

The camera simply doesn't lie.

I mean, look what FOX had to do to bring Bush & Kerry's heads to the same level! Check the podiums:

If by "nearly 6 feet tall" they mean "really not close to 6 feet tall" I would agree with them.

He's like 5'9" or 5'10", tops.

21. There was more than 5" of difference between them.
In more ways than one. And this reminds me of high school sports rosters, where the height and weight of football players is exaggerated.

Just look at president Kerry, so composed and in tune, in contrast to Chief sitting bullshit with his look of disdain and annoyance that someone would dare question his sophistry.

Hard job, bullshit. Dumbass isn't feeling any stress whatsoever if he has a resting pulse of 46. Either that or he's so medicated he's feeling no pain....

My height/weight is very similar to our president. 5'10'' 190lbs.

And I'm a rower, so I will say that that height/weight is certainly consistent with being an athlete. Too bad competence is not determined on the oval track.

So he DOES have rudimentary skills when it comes to scientific observation! The cakes (at least 3 of them) were well-documented here on DU.

28. No Mention of the hemorrhoid...

..."Bush had a hemorrhoid during the period of his National Guard enlistment (1968-1973) <25>." <http://www.doctorzebra.com/prez/g43.htm>

This matches up with this old New York Times link, no longer available for whatever reason, but I saved this about five years ago:"NYT: Files Offer Glimpse of Bush* After College (hemorrhoids) <http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/14/politics/14MILI.html?ex=1077426000&e>

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 01:27 AM by seawolf
It's body fat percentage that matters.

And like I said in another post...it pisses me off that this bastard's in better shape than I am. I suppose never being stressed and working out when you're supposed to be doing your job helps.
