Conyers V. Bush
John Conyers has announced the filing of a Law Suite against President Bush. The Following is the text of teh e-mail sent to supporters by Representative Conyers:

I wanted to update you on the lawsuit I have filed against George W. Bush and members of his administration, referred to in legal parlance as Conyers v. Bush.

You are likely familiar with a number of steps I have taken to challenge the legality and constitutional grounds of the Administration's actions. From the lead up to Iraq, to the Downing Street Minutes, to the outing of a CIA agent, to warrantless wiretapping of U.S. citizens, I have called loudly for the Bush White House to explain itself.

I decided to file suit against the President in Federal Court in Michigan, along with 11 Senior Democratic Members of Congress. This suit was necessary because of a clear violation of the constitution. When the President signed the Deficit Reduction Act (which "reduced" the deficit by cutting taxes, health care benefits, and student loans), he signed into law a bill that had not passed the House and Senate. A different version of the bill passed each house of Congress with a multi-billion dollar difference in funding for life-saving medical equipment.

Anyone who ever watched Schoolhouse Rock knows this to be a problem.

Given the stakes involved I felt it was imperative to aggressively take this fight to the courts. The President's lawyers tried to get the bill dismissed, but late last week I responded with legal filings that stand up for the rule of law and the Constitution and hope to bring the President, and our United States government, back under the rule of law.

I wanted to email you this news today to update you on our efforts and to thank you for your help and support. Thank you also for your continued dedication to a better democracy.

Sincerely,

John Conyers

Apparently Mr. Conyers will link the full filing at Thinkleft.com but the link is not up yet.

9. I neither respect nor admire most congressfolk
John Conyers is an exception to both of those. He genuinely cares about our government and our constitution. He is a true patriot and I hope he will be remembered a century or two hence much the way many of our founding fathers are. He is beyond amazing.

And I love that he made a reference to Schoolhouse Rock. The first learning I ever did about the way our government passes a law was on Schoolhouse Rock, which did, btw, rock. Why couldn't all of the boring stuff in school be taught in that fashion?

13. Conyers for President in 2007! ... (yes, really)
I've suggested this before but I feel compelled to keep posting it because I really believe that the netroots as a political force could make this happen if only we could get the ball rolling.

With the Euphemedia obsessed with their distracting Presidential horserace handicapping for '08, now may be the time for this idea.

We can give the Euphemedia exactly what their addicted to: A Presidential Candidate. Right Now.

And we can give ourselves, and the rest of the True American People what they crave. A real chance to TAKE ACTION to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK.

The best way to take our country back and remove the usurping election thieves may well be to launch a campaign to just do it. A real "presidential" campaign.

We must Draft John Conyers to run President. Right Now. Conyers2007!

Yes, really. Here's the plan.

We engage in a national, full out, presidential campaign (with fundraising, rallies, polls, etc...) to have Mr. Conyers elected Speaker of the House once the Dems take back congress in '06.

The only promise the candidate makes is to impeach/remove bush/cheney and then work, as the New President, to reverse the damage of their illegitimate reign of power/terror (yes terror -- there is no other word for threatening the nation with "mushroom clouds in 45 minutes").

Now, before all the well-trained defeatists start in, let me say that the "success" of this effort is not necessarily about actually resulting in Mr. Conyers moving in to the People's House. We would be drafting him to be a vehicle for our assertion of the People's (battered) Sovereignty over this once-great nation.

There's nothing the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy attends to more than a presidential candidate. And there's nothing that activates supporters better than a leader to rally around.

This effort could go a long way to accomplish what we need most, to nationalize the '06 elections as a referendum on bush failures/crimes.

We can take out the cancer of the bush regime and the benign tumor of our DC Dem "leadership" with the same campaign.

The effort could start right here, right now, on this blog. It's up to us.

24. I'll keep posting it
Who knows, mayber RFK Jr. can make some headway with these beltway boobs.

They may yet come to realize that they're offering nothing without offering removal of the election thief.

Perhaps they'll have to sit there with their spanking new non-veto-proof majority to realize they are completely impotent under the "rule of signing statement."

Maybe we can start a straw vote to drum up some interest: President Conyers vs. President Murtha ?

28. It's about time the powers that be will float that scrap of garbage
about Mrs. Conyers and the claim she slapped a drunk who accosted her in a bar again. As you remember the LAST time they sent it through again, we were starting to get the picture that the only thing they can use against him isn't even remarkable, and they still keep running it.

We can look forward to seeing it another couple of times, at least.

Oh, heck. I just remembered: they also ran down someone who used to work for him who claims he asked her to look after his kids or something. THAT was the OTHER crime!

Yeah, we'll be seeing that one, too.

John Conyers is so bright, he's disciplined, he's steady, and he's very courageous. I hope he'll live to a very healthy, assassination-free old age. We can't afford to lose this great Congressman.

He let a staffer babysit for him, didn't he? Nothing Bush did comes close in terms of illegality to that, right?
