Talabani: We won't let Turkey conduct a military operation in Iraq
Iraqi Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani yesterday met with Aydin Silgin, Turkey's coordinator responsible for Iraq affairs, to discuss a number of issues, including a possible Turkish cross-border operation in Iraq.

During their meeting, Talabani said that neighboring countries should respect Iraq's sovereignty, adding that they wouldn't let Turkey carry out a military operation in Iraq. Talabani further stressed that he wouldn't let Iraq to be used for terrorist attacks against Turkey.

2. One of several conflicts of interests that's likely to erupt in Iraq
While we've done our best to smile and ignore the Turkish/Kurd issue, opposing interests have a way of forcing our attention.

Add this to the recent (as of today) statements by Sadr that he's going to throw in with Hezbollah, and our own beligerency against Iran, and we could be looking at a 4-way donnybrook in Iraq this next year.

3. I remember back when the illegal invasion had just begun...
DUers, at that time, predicted precisely the scenario that is now occurring between Turkey and Kurdish Iraq. I never fail to be in awe of how DU is so often ahead of the ball.
