Thousands flee as Iraq violence deepens

By Ahmed Rasheed

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Iraqis have fled their homes in fear of sectarian
violence that has worsened since formation of a U.S.-backed national unity government two
months ago, official data showed on Thursday.

A day after the United States issued a stern warning to both Shi'ite and minority Sunni
leaders to match talk with action on reining in "death squads" and "terrorists" from their
respective communities, the Migration Ministry said more than 30,000 people had registered
as refugees this month alone.

"We consider this to be a dangerous sign," ministry spokesman Sattar Nowruz told Reuters,
acknowledging that many more people fled abroad or quietly sought refuge with relatives
rather than sign up for official aid or move into state camps.

8. That was my first thought as well.
I fail to see how things are getting better in Iraq and expect to the kool-aid drunks, it is plain to see that the Middle East has become much less stable since the PNACers took control of our government.

I wonder if the Migration Ministry has a Department of Ethnic Cleansing?

9. Oh, that's a Britishism, I think
I did some translation work for some UK NGO's years ago, and refugees were all called "migrants". I thought it was odd and asked my POC about it; she said that's the "official" language for it in the UK. I'd assume England left a pretty big stamp on Iraq's form of government, so they ministries are probably organized and named on those lines.

13. Thanks for the translation...
Now I understand why they elected to go with "Ministry of Migrants" - sounds better than "Ministry of Refugees".

Um, yeah, that really huge blinking neon sign, that one that has been going off since the Pentagon, State Department and CIA warned about exactly what is happening now?

6. The Definition of Civil War
Says nothing about "in every way but name only" and doesn't include "low-grade."

Civil war, a war between different sections or parties of
the same country or nation. http://dict.die.net/civil%20war/

10. You'd need a PhD in chaos to mess things up this badly
How long will it be before the American Pravda media FINALLY admits there's a civil war going on there, while at the same time they say no one could have predicted it?

20. Very bad in many ways.
All those people abandoning their homes. What happens while they are gone? The empty neighborhoods become more territory available for the fighters. Will the owners ever get their homes back? Or even their property if the building itself is destroyed?
What do they do while they are gone? How can they not be bitter?

embryos. Killing people and creating refugees is not something he concerns himself with.
