Doctor Suspected In NYC Building Collapse Dies
Doctor Suspected In NYC Building Collapse Dies

NEW YORK -- The New York doctor suspected of blowing up his townhouse rather than losing it in a divorce settlement has died.

Dr. Nicholas Bartha was badly injured in the blast Monday and died Saturday night at a hospital in New York. The explosion destroyed the four-story landmark in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Crap. I was hoping to see the right-winger (known from his rantings in his multi-page suicide note) go to trial.

2. What a...
...sad, sad son of a bitch. Jackasses like that are just ruining our world. "Yes, I'd rather kill myself and possibly others just to keep you from getting any of my possessions." How despicable.

8. He may have destroyed the building, but not the land under it.
Couldn't the wife sell the land, or act as landlord for whatever is constructed in the building's place? Either way, she could end up with LOT more than half of what he was ordered to sell the building for!

9. I dunno. Bare real estate in Manhattan can't be worth very much, can it?

13. Um, the land is worth more
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 07:01 PM by jumptheshadow
The value of the already cleared land is worth significantly more than the land with the building on it.

The townhouse was in bad shape and would have been gutted. The doctor took care of that...

Once the land is cleared a new owner can build a brand new structure in the heart of one of NYC's prime neighborhoods. That's worth its weight in gold.

12. I think
that whatever money is left in his estate will probably be targets of lawsuits to recover damages by those affected. In doing this act which I cannot condone ( but having gone through a real nasty divorce can partially understand the emotional roller-coaster) he pretty much made sure that all the assists would be tied up in court, effectively screwing the ex-wife.

4. Ok. So I'm at a loss for why this isn't terrorism too.
Oh, sorry he wasn't a muslim. Of course. He was only trying to inflict terror for personal mysoginist reasons. Not for particular religious reasons. He must hate our freedoms.

6. Misogyny IS a religion for some men
And, actually, I think it was HER freedom he hated.

I guess he got what he wished for after all.

14. Well I guess he found a cave and blew himself up
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 08:30 PM by heliarc
Seems like a suicide bombing to me... ok it was a New York High Rise, not a cave, but I've seen some pretty bad rent controlled highrises in my day.

I guess the religion of misogyny demanded a human sacrifice. Haha! Who knows, his wife could have been a total misanthrope. That can be a religion among some girls I've known too. Sounds like they may have been a match made in hell. Like your avatar chef girl. I'm a chef ,er boy I guess... not professionally, but pretty avidly. Keep on cookin'!

15. Just as well.. He would have ended up in jail forever
or an institution, and the legal fees would have eaten up what was left of the estate.. I just hope that the innocent bystanders who got hurt, manage to get some compensation..
