WASHINGTON (AP) -- Paul Johnson, campaign manager of Bob Graham's unsuccessful presidential bid, was hired Monday for the same position in Democrat Wesley Clark's campaign.

Clark spokesman Matt Bennett said Johnson was hired by campaign chairman Eli Segal and will start next Monday.

Johnson is a Minnesota native and a veteran of several Democratic campaigns for the Senate. He also worked on the presidential campaigns of former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey in 1992 and Walter Mondale in 1984.

3. Judging from his track record...
No.

Kerrey ran a horrible campaign (remember the hockey ad in NH?), Graham never really got started. Mondale, well....

4. I now understand Graham's campaign a lot better now
As Clark is my tied second-place pick, I wish you Clark supporters luck. It's not going to be easy with this one in charge.

candidate. Nice to see you bark at someone else's candidate when they're actually being nice to your side.

Just facts... perhaps it was the absence of an emoticon :)

IMO, Graham's problem seemed to be a lack of money... he wasn't attracting money from grassroots or heavy hitters.

And that Trippi is doing a good job with Dean's campaign after working on other failed campaigns points to the fact that one shouldn't dismiss the potential of a campaign manager summarily.

It's just, of all the campaigns mentioned, those seem to be pretty low points in campaigning. Personally, I'd never hire someone who just basically lost a campaign in the same primary to serve as the head of another one in the same season.

I think Graham has a lot of problems with his campaign. Lack of money? I personally thought the whole campaign was flawed. It just doesn't make sense to me to pick this guy.

Anyone know him any better to be able to pitch why he's a good choice?

I'm not even sure what a campaign manager is supposed to do- as opposed to campaign director.

For instance, we hear about Trippi alot (the director) but never about Ridder (the manager).

I THINK that a manager takes care of setting up offices and organizing apparatus while the director focues more on strategery?

10. It's hard to argue Hart would have lost without....
The "Monkey Business"...and that can hardly be pinned on the campaign manager.

11. Contacts, contacts, contacts.
Florida and Minnesota. This guy has got to have an impressive Rolodex; that, as much as his skills, is likely what got him hired.
