Coalition soldier killed in Afghan battle

KABUL (Reuters) - A soldier in Afghanistan's U.S.-led coalition force was killed
in a firefight on Sunday, a day after a roadside blast hit a patrol of Spanish
peacekeepers, killing one and wounding four.

U.S.-led troops have mounted big offensives in Afghanistan's south and east
over recent weeks in response to the most severe Taliban violence since the
hard-line Islamists were ousted in 2001.

"A coalition soldier was killed this morning in a firefight with a group of enemy
fighters," said U.S. military spokeswoman Lieutenant Tamara Lawrence.

She did not give the nationality of the soldier who was killed in a firefight
in the Panjwai district of the southern province of Kandahar.

2. Canadian soldier killed after 'outstanding work' in Afghanistan
A young reservist from Thunder Bay, Ont., has been killed in battle in southern Afghanistan, a day after Taliban militants wounded two other Canadians in the same area.

Cpl. Anthony Joseph Boneca, a 21-year-old reservist from the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment based in Thunder Bay, died on Sunday morning, military officials said.

He was with international and Afghan forces that have been battling since Friday night in a region west of Kandahar City, which has been a hotbed of Taliban activity over the past few months.

4. I'm going to lower my flag to half staff come next weekend. In your honor.
Your Prime Minister won't. Cause he is a jackass.
