DeLay suggests he might not retire
SUGAR LAND, Texas - Former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay suggested Friday that he may not be ready for retirement just yet, a day after a federal judge ruled that his name must remain on the November ballot even though he resigned from Congress.

DeLay, who came home to Sugar Land for a previously scheduled event, also criticized U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks' ruling that the former House majority leader's name had to remain on the ballot.

"For this guy to say he can't tell where I'm going to be on Election Day, and that I am forced to be on the ballot, well, they may get exactly what they want," DeLay told supporters to raucous applause. Sparks is a Democrat appointed by Republican former President
George Bush.

Later, reporters asked Delay if he now planned to run. He didn't say no.

2. Well, pants on fire, then...he DID tell the judge he was no longer a TX
resident, didn't he???

I'm not up on the rules down that way, but don't you have to be a resident, or do you only have to be one on election day??

3. So…whatever happened to "I figured out I can do more from the outside…"
like he said just the other day on TV? He had a big smile and talked about how happy he was in his new life.

4. People get the Government that they deserve.
If it comes to pass that DeLay is reelected, then I guess Texans like their crooks and liars even if the nominee is no longer a resident. (Or holding office from a prison cell.) God help us.

5. He just proved the Democrat's case, right there in print.
He *always* had the option of moving back to his district before or on election day, so his name is legitimately on the ballot and should remain there.

6. I personally never understood the Dems insistence of keeping
Delay on the ballot. It seemed a way for him to get reelected, which is a ghastly thought. I hope they know what they are doing.

7. He knows he's got no chance. He's pretty damn sure.
For Delay to not want to run, he knows he's not just going to lose, he's going to embarass himself.

9. One does not "retire" from an elected office!
They may get "benefits" for the number of years they served, but one cannot retire from an office to which one must be elected! He chose not to stand again. There is a big difference in my book...

13. TIME: Unlikely GOP Comeback? DeLay plans run for his old House seat
An Unlikely GOP Comeback Kid?
Indicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay plans to run for his old seat
By MIKE ALLEN AND HILARY HYLTON
Posted Sunday, Jul. 9, 2006

Could Tom DeLay be headed back to the House?

A source close to the ex-Congressman tells TIME that DeLay is planning an aggressive campaign to retake the House seat he quit in June if an appeals court lets stand a ruling by a federal judge last week that his name must stay on November's ballot—even though he has moved to Virginia.

"If it isn't overturned, Katy bar the door!" says a G.O.P. official. "Guess he'll have to fire up the engines on the campaign and let 'er rip."...

15. Will DeLay call up his brownshirts again?
By JUAN A. LOZANO, Associated Press Writer
April 6, 2006 09:58PM EST

SUGAR LAND, Texas - Supporters of U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay protested at an event Thursday held by the Democratic candidate for the congressman's seat, and the event quickly dissolved into a shouting and shoving match. Police were called, but made no arrests.

"I got pushed. I got hit. I got a sign wadded up in my face and my hat pulled down over my eyes," said Marsha Rovai, 69, a supporter of Nick Lampson. "They just did it to be nasty."

DeLay campaign manager Chris Homan said he organized the protest but DeLay, a Republican, didn't know about it.

No they did it because they are nasty...not to be nasty. GOP is just a bunch of nasty thugs and they delight in it.

so just as in the primary, he's only pretending to run.

That's exactly what is happening here. He's going to run, and then use the campaign funds not to win, but for his legal defense.

26. Didn't he declare he was giving up his residency in Tx and
moving to VA? If he is a legal resident of Va. he CAN'T legally be a Rep for TX!

Also, electing him back to the House would be in direct violation of the Pub House Ethics Rules that state any Pub who is indicted will leave office!

27. He's been all over the tube with his big smile
saying he figured out he can do more "good" working on the outside, rather than the inside. He said he doesn't miss his old job and said he's very happy with his new life.

Didn't he quit because he'd been indicted?

29. Don't confuse "running"
with "name on ballot."

With little Tommy's name on the ballot, the GOP can't put someone else on the ballot at this time. So unless there is a miracle (can you say Diebold?) the seat is ours.
