Frist blames CNN for low Republican poll numbers
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Video_Frist_blames_CNN_for_Republican_0628.html

Senator Bill Frist (R-TN) appeared on CNN's American Morning to explain why the Senate is spending time on issues like flag burning while polls indicate that the American people are more concerned about Iraq and the economy.

CNN host Miles O'Brien asked Frist why recent polls show that show 54% of Americans will vote for Democrats in the upcoming elections while only 38% planned to vote for Republicans. Frist explained that the people's concerns were being addressed by the Republican Senate but told O'Brein those were the sort of issues "you may not cover and others may not cover."

O'Brien defended CNN, "We are covering but I think there is -- a lot of what you say there -- Americans are not hearing that particular message. As the majority leader, isn't that part of your job?"

Frist replied, "Well, you know, it's part of my job and your job and your whole coming into this was, again, saying Harry Reid that we are spending all of our time on marriage -- which is important. That we're spending all of the time on flag without mentioning what we've done of the floor for six weeks. Iraq, the war on terror, making you safer... where's your coverage of that? What you do is concentrate on things that are spun to you from the other side of the aisle and that's why that message doesn't get out."

Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 07:16 AM by mwooldri
Check out that guy called Keith Olbermann... check his ratings out... Maybe he's to blame!

Then the nice guys at NBC Universal might do something about it if he bleats often and painfully enough. (Probably like tell him to ___ off.)

Mark.

Fox News? CNN isn't exactly, Dem friendly. I suppose what they are after is propaganda TV. I hope this backfires on the Repub's and the media turns on them.

OMG, they are trying to swift boat both CNN and NYT because they aren't pure Republican trash news sources. I suppose getting rid of Rather has emboldened them.

65. Vice President Henry Wallace
saw this coming back in 1944:

"The American fascist's method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power. The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy. They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."

Wallace saw the "incipient traces of fascism along the Potomac" 62 years ago.

Nothing has changed, except for the worse.

83. The quote above
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 01:25 AM by ronnie624
makes it obvious why Henry Agard Wallace has been shoved down the memory hole. He, like Smedley Butler, speaks truths that the corporate political power nexus that dominates American society would prefer not to publicize.

A Google search reveals some interesting material on Henry Agard Wallace.

60. CNN will never do an expose
on this filth. It's rather bizarre hearing him whine about CNN considering they have helped cover up the criminal activity involving his family's business.

Media Matters previously noted that network news broadcasts devoted little air time to coverage of Frist's stock sale. As first reported on September 19 by Congressional Quarterly, and subsequently by the Associated Press, Frist ordered the trustee managing his blind trust to sell all shares in HCA owned by his family on June 13. Frist's shares were then sold on July 1, and those owned by his wife and children were sold one week later. On July 13, the price of HCA shares dropped considerably after the company reported weaker-than-expected earnings . On September 29, HCA announced that the SEC had opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transactions.

But few print stories have mentioned the company's history of fraud and its precedent-setting fine to settle charges stemming from kickbacks to doctors and overcharging the Medicare program. Media Matters has reviewed all 350 articles in the Nexis database that mention the Frist stock sale; only six articles -- five by print news outlets and one by a wire service -- have mentioned the record $1.7 billion settlement in their coverage of the investigation: Gannett News Service <9/21/05>, The New York Times <9/22/05>, Roll Call <9/26/05 (subscription required)>, The New York Observer <10/3/05>, and The Tennessean <9/22/05 and 10/1/05 (subscription required)>.

Miles knew that.
If that was a Dem he would not have just uttered a meek but.... but... and then sat and waited for permission to speak. His mike would be up louder than the Dem and he would just interrupt and keep talking.

When Frist said the negative polling was CNN fault not not getting their message out, he should have told told him.
No, Mr Frist your poll numbers are low because the peoples message is not getting in to this corrupt congress and administration.

Pretty much for the same reason that CNN ratings are sinking.

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2006/06/12/frists_cat_problem.html

Tennessean columnist Gail Kerr notes that Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) "fessed up in his 1989 book, Transplant, to adopting cats from shelters when he was in medical school, treating them like pets for a while, and then using them in his research experiments." The subject also came up in the 1994 Senate GOP primary.

52. Replaying the past
In the last few decades the 'pugs seem to demonize the media anytime the political climate is turning against them and their wedge issues of the year. Sometimes they do it even when the issues are working for them, simply to turn out the base. (Shrub and the boys did it, to a degree, in '04.) And although I have a very low opinion of most of the elected Repugs, I almost can't blame them if a sizeable chunk of Americans is willing to fall for the same bullshit one election cycle after another. Might as well be pulling out all the stops...

55. Hey Frist, you ignorant piece of shit
Hello from Tennessee, you prick. I don't have cable, CNN, FU(X), Comedy Central.

I don't watch the news. I just look around Tennessee.

You've destroyed our state along with the rest of the nation.

How does it feel to know you're planning to destroy Head Start, does it give you a hard-on to know that lots of little Appalachian children and inner city Memphis kids won't get the good educational start they so desperately need? How does it feel to know that you are helping sink Tennessee's elderly into deeper and deeper poverty by your and other Repukes giving legislative blowjobs to the Pharm companies?

How does it feel knowing you sent Tennessee soldiers to their deaths for oil and money?

You have no conscience, no sense of right and wrong and no humanity left in even the smallest cell of your being.

If there is a god, it hates you. And I damned sure am completely and utterly disgusted by you. YOU are the reason Repukes are reviled in this nation. YOU, friend. Own up. Take some fucking responsibility you goddamned coward.

And if there's a hell, please rot in it.

YOU ARE EVERYTHING WRONG WITH AMERICA TODAY, BILLY BOY. TENNESSEANS KNOW IT AND MOST I TALK TO THINK YOU SUCK.

56. Let me guess...
they're making us "safer" by fighting the war OVER THERE, and not
OVER HERE.

born an A-hole, or did it take a lot of work to be the A-hole he is today?

61. Hah!
Mr. Frist, if I may relate to you a quote from Bender on Futurama:

"HAAHAHAHAHAHA! ...Oh, wait, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder."

Perhaps the media WOULD mention how the Republicans are making us safer, if only they were ACTUALLY DOING IT. Perhaps if they were going after Osama bin Laden, instead of sending our young men and women to die in the desert... perhaps if fighting terrorism was actually as important to them as machismo and posturing... perhaps if they were applying some thought to how we could undermine terrorism intelligently, rather than throwing more troops at insurgents... maybe if they were planning a timetable for bringing our armed forces home where they belong, instead of planning how to stop flag-burning and gay marriages!

Now if any Democrats try to confront media bias- they can just say "Well, the Republicans say the same things, so I guess we are somewhere in the middle"

I've been SCREAMING that DEMS need to talk about media bias for months. Why wont they do it?

70. oh yeah, that's right. . .
I forgot! CNN is the ultraliberal news channel. When they kiss Bush's ass, they really don't mean it, and when they acted like horny cheerleaders for the Iraq War, they didn't mean that either. . . . It's all just an act. . . .

74. Frist blames CNN
The Republican Party only needs to take a look in the mirror, and to this administrations failed policies to see where the Blame lies. They truly need to stop blowing smoke up the American peoples Ass. They've become so transparent that no one's buying this BS anymore. Well Billy boy, the old saying goes " You never heard a fish vendor yell rotten fish"

Is it actually possible that Democrats & Republicans finally agree on something, namely, that the MSM is biased against them. But AT THE SAME TIME? How can this be? :wtf:
