AP: Bush, impersonator (repeat) banter at D.C. gala
Bush, impersonator banter at D.C. gala
By KASIE HUNT
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

WASHINGTON -- President Bush rocked his head in time with country music and bantered with a look-alike comedian during a benefit for the Ford's Theatre Sunday night.

Abu Musab Zarqawi "was an evildoer. He is now an evildider," comic Steve Bridges said in a perfect Texas accent, referring to the recent death of the terror leader in Iraq.

The real president didn't stop laughing during Bridges' routine. "That guy's not much of a speaker," Bush said of his impersonator. "But he makes up for it with his good looks."

It was a reprise of the routine they debuted to rave reviews at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in April.

But both men used more somber tones when they made tributes to military men and women serving overseas. "We thank them for their courage, for their service. We are forever in their debt," Bridges said, with no trace of humor....

10. Bush's new "best friend" is ... himself? What a narcissist!
Seriously -- does anyone else find this kind of revealing, that Bush seems to get along so well with a guy who dresses up and imitates him? Sure, Steve Bridges is a Republican who happens to fit the general profile of Bush himself, even without the Hollywood makeup job -- white, middle-aged, evangelical Christian (though unlike "Dubya", Bridges was actually born in Texas!). So they would probably have some things in common. But it's kind of weird, not to say creepy, that Bush would insist that they do a comedy bit together for the press dinner a few weeks ago, and now he gets Bridges to come all the way back to DC for an encore.

Admittedly Bridges does make his version of Bush seem friendlier and less mean-spirited than the actual guy ... he even did a Sunday talk show dressed as Bush, and the White House approved. During the press dinner comedy routine, I noticed Laura craning her neck to get a better view of Bridges. She was smiling ... I would not be surprised if she has better chemistry with the impersonator than with her husband, who slaps her behind in public, or makes jokes about sending her off to sweep the porch.
