Cantwell gets an assist from foe
By Anne Kim

Seattle Times staff reporter

Mike McGavick, the Republican candidate challenging Sen. Maria Cantwell, says a television commercial that shows Cantwell's head superimposed on a vulture's body should be taken off the air.

But the Free Enterprise Fund, the pro-business lobbying organization running the ad that advocates repeal of the federal estate tax, says it's not pulling the plug.

"This isn't the kind of ad that I think is helpful to the political process, and I wish it would be taken down," McGavick said in an interview Thursday.

He called the commercial an "inappropriate and personal attack."

1. but sadly, what other kind of republican ad is there? they are ALL
inappropriate personal attacks.
I'm not sure how to change it, but it seems to be SOP.

2. I saw that ad last night
It is poorly done, nasty piece that goes on and on about the "death tax." I thought it was a McGavick piece until the "credits" at the very end.

3. very good tactics on McGavick's part...
especially here in Washington. Allow supporters to create really nasty ads, then publicly disown those ads.

The ads get twice the airplay and McGavick can be portrayed as a fair-minded guy.

5. This will backfire
The so called "the Free Enterprise Fund" is nothing but a bunch of libertarian whacko's and for McGavick to be dentified with them only hurts his cause.

7. McGavick is a "libertarian conservative" according to VoteMatch.
So maybe he has lots of "friends" like that.

The same org says Cantwell is a "liberal populist," and that Patty Murray is a "populist-leaning liberal"
