An emergency medical technician who responded to a fatal attack on a New York Times reporter has been fired after a report detailed mistakes in the journalist's care.

Fire Chief Adrian S. Thompson fired the EMT on Friday night, hours after the release of the report from the District of Columbia inspector general's office, said Vincent Morris, a spokesman for Mayor Anthony A. Williams.

The report criticized emergency workers and hospital employees for improperly assessing and treating David Rosenbaum, who died two days after the Jan. 6 attack. It also said police failed to conduct a proper investigation.

The Washington Post, citing government sources, identified the fired worker as Selena Walker, who drove the ambulance that took Rosenbaum to Howard University Hospital. Walker's firing was first reported by The Washington Times.

3. The "whistle blower" was the DC Inspector General's office; NOT the emt

The EMT DID screw up and treated the unconscious man as a drunk who passed out. In fact, the reporter had been beaten unconscious. So she was fired for negligence and professional incompetence, NOT FOR WHISTLE BLOWING ! ! ! Before people start posting about who can't handle the truth, maybe they shoud actually read the OP.

4. Thank you Divernan
As a DC resident, the fact that the EMTs missed a serious head wound, just assumed this guy was a drunk passed out, took him to an ER across the city, and then left him sitting on a gurney for an hour is scary as hell.
