Citizens of pro-whaling countries: 'No' to whaling -- WWF
On the eve of 58th International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting, a new WWF poll reveals that citizens from ten countries in the Pacific and Caribbean, whose governments repeatedly vote to resume commercial whaling, do not support the hunting and killing of whales.

The WWF poll was carried out in Palau, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis, where the IWC meeting is being held.

The questions included awareness of the IWC, whether countries should vote for or against a return to commercial whaling, and support for votes in the past to return to commercial whaling.

“This poll shows that governments are flying in the face of public opinion. The results are overwhelming – people simply do not want a return to commercial whaling,” says Chris Howe, Conservation Director at WWF-New Zealand.

1. Whaling summit setback for Japan
Japan has unexpectedly lost two key votes at a meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in the Caribbean island of St Kitts.

The pro-whaling nation wanted to end work on conservation of sea mammals and introduce secret ballots.
...
Not all of Japan's traditional allies have turned up here and a couple voted unexpectedly with the pro-conservation nations, he says.

However, other votes lie ahead during the five-day meeting and other countries expected to side with Japan may yet turn up, our correspondent says.

3. Also, Whale Meat Isn't Safe For Human Consumption
Another meme that I think that anti-whaling activists ought to promote is the fact that whale meat isn't really safe for human consumption. It has much higher levels of mercury, dioxins, and other toxins.

This is certainly also true for Fido-San and Hello-Kitty.

What better way to undercut the whaling industry than to leave them with a product that nobody wants to buy?
